Chapter 39 - GROG!!!

There was a dog like beast lying on the ground staring at him. There was a cunning light in its eyes as it observed him. Wesley took a step back and the dog like beast stood up, it looked more imposing when standing, it had scales for fur and bone spurs coming out of the edges of its scales.

Worst of all, it was big, almost five meters in height and and around twelve meters in length.

'why is it not attacking. This is what it means if you don't seek death, you will live' Wesley was regretting as to why he had decided to continue fighting in the tunnels beyond the known ones.

He realized it was greed and excitement. Greed for more beads and excitement for finally being able to let go and be himself.

As he thought about his mistakes, the beast attacked but not him. It shot forward like a lightning bolt and attacked the mole rats that had been chasing him.

It took care of them in mere seconds and seeing the unfavorable situation they were in, the rest of the mole rats bolted and burrowed into the ground to save their lives.

This showed Wesley the surrealism he had got himself into.

'It seems to be a strong one' the beast looked to be a simple one despite its large size at first but when it had attacked the other beasts, it had released an imposing aura and showed its cruel side that made him stop himself from doing anything stupid.

'I wonder what level it is' he worried as the beast prowled towards him. He was ready to fight his all if it showed any inkling of attacking him. If all failed he would use the inheritance token. He just hoped Tresse would understand.

The beast stood in front him with its foul breath encompassing him and nudged him to move backwards.

Wesley did not understand what was happening so he stopped and stared at the beast with vigilance.

It let out a menacing growl that scared him into moving. He walked backwards as he did not want to leave his back to this dangerous beast.

'if I fight this beast, I will have a few broken bones' he thought as he walked. He did not want to fight the beast in this domain, it he got injured and could not move, that would spell more danger than what he wanted.

'lets see what it wants to do first'

Wesley came to a makeshift cage made of human bones and was surprised to see other warriors inside the cage. The cage had gaps that a full grown man could pass through, the beast stood in front and growled at him to enter and join the party.

Wesley groaned and entered the cage. When it saw this, the beast turned around and left.

Wesley was flabbergasted at this sight so he made a move to get out.

'I would not do that if I were you' a hoarse whisper came from one the warriors in the cage.

Wesley turned and studied the situation in the cage, there were four male warriors all in different states of injuries. The warning came from a warrior whose battle armor was so damaged it could not provide any defense for him.

This was not what Wesley concentrated on, from the first sound the man made, he felt that the voice sounded familiar but it did not make sense to him.

Wesley came towards the man and studied him and with the minimal light around them, he recognized him.

Gasping in shock, 'Grog" he shouted out in total surprise. He did not expect to find him like this. He knew that there had a been a bounty for him, but no one had provided any information of his whereabouts so Wesley thought the man had died.

'shhh' another warrior gestured to Wesley not to shout. 'if you make more noise, that beast will come back and I don't want to be on its menu any time soon.'

Wesley nodded and turned back to the decrepit looking Grog. 'do you know me?' grog asked of him. Grog seemed not to know him which puzzled him greatly.

Wesley was still shocked at finding him here that he forgot that Grog would not be able to recognize him.

'you don't look like someone I know' Grog told after scrutinizing him carefully.

That is when it hit Wesley, he had not changed back to his rightful face. He breathed out a sigh of relief and said to Grog, 'someone put a bounty on you, so the entire city has been searching for you for months'

Wesley observed Grog and saw his face become very ugly.

'Why can't he leave me alone, I survived the elemental storm, got captured by these beasts and he is still searching for me.' Grog cursed out in anger.

When Wesley heard this, he was shocked about Grog's mentioning of 'him' but what concerned him more at this time was the mention of 'these beasts'

'wait, there are more beasts like the one that brought me here? He questioned Grog as he felt he was missing something important.

Grog stopped his monologue and looked at him, 'yes there are more than six beasts in this area and they take turns to patrol. That one is the weakest'

'And pray tell, what do they want with keeping us here?' he continued to ask as he waved his hands to mean the cage they were in.

'of course nothing else, we are their food, it seems we taste better than other beasts and they have learned to keep the best for last' and then it clicked for Wesley, mole rats did not give up prey unless they were up against an opponent they could not win.

The beast that brought him here did not seem to be that strong, he felt he could fight it and leave but why did the mole rats never engage in fighting it.

'oh no' he realized at last that he was in a lair full of beats.
