Chapter 42 - SURPRISING BEAST

'To arms, I think we just poked a hornet's nest' Brune shouted to the rest. He turned to Frost his right hand man and let out an exclamation in surprise. 'huh, why he is he all the way at the back'

'Hey Frost, please protect Miss Vane'

'Miss Vane, will you please go to the back and join Frost. If this battle becomes too much for you, you can always retreat' he told the woman and chuckled.

Vane sent him a withering glare that could send shivers to the faint hearted but the city lord was not.

He just waved her back and prepared to face the beasts. The first beast he met was a fourth level beast that he killed with a slash of his sword. The two sister's weapons were double rings which were sharp enough to cut iron like mud.

They fought with a spirit meant for protecting their home but as for the two at the back, Vane was also a sword user and was also doing her part of killing off the beasts.

Frost on the other hand was like a specter, he would move through the beasts, tap his finger on their foreheads and continue on to other beasts and do the same.

Whatever beast he touched would freeze and start shriveling, the beasts would act like they had not seen him which was the most unsettling part.

Vane who was closer to him felt creeped out, whatever the man was doing was beyond supernatural.

'I shouldn't have come' she cursed out in regret. A foreboding feeling had started to ping on her instincts as a warrior, this was going to be one bad battle she would live to regret.

The speed they used to end the beasts was far much faster than beasts speed of shriveling, that made the tunnel they were fighting in to be cramped.

All of them felt stifled as they could not move freely and had to limit their strength in order not to injure each other by mistake.

'We need to find a wider space to fight, this is not working out for us.' Brune thought.

"Frost, this is your domain, get us a wider place' he requested of Frost at last.

'Twenty meters ahead, I think there is a cavern, we can fight them there' Frost answered in a breathlessly.

They all pushed hard and arrived at the cavern Frost had mentioned. 'alright, I will handle the stronger ones, you can fend off the rest.'

'If you find that you can't handle a beast, please do not be a hero, call out for help.' he continued as he shot a look at Vane.

Vane snorted and entered the fight once more. 'The faster we kill them off, the faster I can get back' she thought in anger.

The two sisters fought back to back and would help out Vane when they saw other beasts ambushing her. The most interesting part at this time was that everyone had forgotten about Frost.

He disappeared but no one had noticed his absence, they just kept on fighting.

As they fought and the beasts number's were reducing, instead of Brune feeling happy, he felt uneasy about the situation. He started thinking that he had walked into a trap. Couple on the eyes he felt were staring at him as he fought. That presence felt stronger than the earlier one he had sensed which he was fighting at this moment.

'No, I can not continue like this, I have to force it out.' he thought. The ring on his fore finger shimmered and a blue bead appeared in his palm. 'Everyone put up a protective barrier' he shouted to the others, sent a ray of spiritual aura into the bead and threw it out to where he felt the eyes were hiding.

Verina and Melina saw the blue bead falling with a blue light begin to flicker on it like a beating heart. 'oh no, a lightning bead' they hastily put up a protection barrier using their aura and prayed for the best.

It was only Vane who let out a gasp in surprise. She did not know what Brune had thrown but looking at the sisters' action, it looked bad.

'What' she started to question but the sound did not escape her mouth for a second when.

'boooom, crackle' the bead fell and released huge amounts of lightning that destroyed everything in its path. The immense force hit their spiritual barriers and forced them to slide backwards. As for Vane, it hit her point blank and sent her flying.

She hit one of the walls and slid down like a dropped stone.

'pshh' Vane spat out blood when she touched the cavern floor. Her breathing was labored and she could feel that she had broken a few of her ribs. She was out of the fight.

When the lightning stopped crackling and destroying everything, Brune looked around in vigilance. He did not bother about the downed Vane or the two sisters who were now kneeling down and panting in exhaustion.

He could feel that he had annoyed the beast by killing all the rest of the lower tier beasts when he used the lightning bead. Only it, remained.

'pat….pat…pat' sounds of claws meeting the ground came from a tunnel. Since it was still dusty, they could not see the beast but they could feel its imposing aura as it came towards them.

Brunes face became ugly as he totally sensed its strength. 'Merina and Velina, grab Vane and run. When you meet Frost, take him with you.'

The two didn't argue, they grabbed Vane and bolted. They actually felt a sense of death from the unseen beast.
