It was a sunny day in the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad had been put on fire flower collection duty by official orders of the Mushroom King Chancellor. Luckily, Princess Peach had decided to keep him company and they took off for a small walk around the town in search for some fire flowers.
They stood on a hill which overlooked the Forbidden Forest, a goomba hangout and the home to many of Bowsers other minions. The Mushroom Kingdom had tried numerous times to wipe it clean and fix it up, but the forest emanated a strange aura of evil, and every attempt had met with failure. Instead, the chose to block it off, and it remained that way for years.
Toad, completely ignoring the view of the forest blabbed, "I hate fire flower duty, I never even get to USE them, all I do is collect them for you and Mario, right!?"
Peach looked down at him smiling. She was wearing her summer outfit she got when she played tennis last year with Mario, looking cute as usual. "Well, next time we go on an adventure, we'll bring you along, you have really been practicing a lot," Peach replied, "I'm sure you can help us out."
"You really mean it!? Yeah, I've been working hard every day to help out, right?!" Toad looked up at a floating Coin block. This one usually contained mushrooms, but sometimes it would give them fire flowers. Toad flexed towards Peach, ready to show off his new skills. His little feet scattered about before his jump. Up! Up! He reached out his hand towards the block - closer - closer - further! He missed by 3 toad lengths.
Peach chuckled at Toads attempt, "Well if you're going to come with us, you'll at least have to learn how to double jump!"
"Double jump? How do you do that?!
"It's easy, but it'll take some practice." Peach focused her sights on the block, and very elegantly leapt into the air. At the top of her jump, she began floating. She looked down at Toad and began to lecture, "Ok, once you're at the top of your first jump, you'll want to imagine that you're standing on another block. Try really hard, because you have to really believe its there." Peach briefly stopped floating and quickly took a step. A glowing edge appeared in the air where she placed her foot - she pushed off and lept even higher into the air, over the block and on top of it, where she sat down while dangling her legs.
"See Toad, its easy! Now you try!"
"Wow Princess Peach, that's amazing! Can I really do that too?"
"Of course you can! Double jumping is easy, just you wait until I teach you triple jumping," Peach smiled and winked at Toad.
"There's more! Ok, well teach me that too! I need to learn as much as possible to help out you and Mario, right?!"
Peach puts her finger up to her chin to think. "Well, I could probably teach you both at once. The third kind of jump requires you to use a special skill of yours. Do you have any skills that could help you jump higher?"
Toad started tapping his little foot as he tried his hardest to think of a move that might fit that category.
"I got it! I can use my poison shot! I normally just use it as a shield, but if I aim it down, it should blast me upwards, right?"
"Yeah! Great idea Toad, that should work fine! Now remember, believe a step is there, then when you do the second jump, you'll have to imagine a second step, and blast your poison shot onto that. You'll get REALLY high, so don't do it too hard!"
"Ok, ok, I got it, watch this!"
Toad prepared for his attempt. Without hesitation, he closed his eyes and leapt into the air. It wasn't much higher than before, but this time he had the princesses advice to help out. "Ok, there's a block right under me, there's definitely a block right under me." Toad put his foot down, and to his surprise he felt a hard surface.
"All right! There it is. Now I just have to jump again." Toad jumped once more. With his eyes stilled closed he continued upwards; past the block with Peach on it.
"Ok, now for the third jump," Toad told himself. "Imagine another block, and shoot my poison shot straight into it!" Toad employed a small flip, pointing his hat straight down then blasting his poison shot into the invisible block. A green poison cloud erupted from his mushroom hat and sending him flying into the air. "I did it," Toad thinks, "I really did it!" He opened his eyes.
Toad saw Peach down below and yelled towards her, "Princess Peach I did it! I really did it, RIiiiiigggghhhttt?" Toads voice trailed off into the distance.
"Oh no, I jumped TOO far!"
"Oh no, He jumped TOO far, he's heading straight for the Forbidden Forest." Peach promptly stood up to follow after Toad.
