Land of Fire.
Obito carried the still-trapped-in-illusion Cardo all the way into the Land of Fire.
They arrived at the same cave where they had previously split their spoils.
"I'm exhausted!" Obito muttered, throwing Cardo heavily onto the ground.
He hadn't expected Cardo to be this heavy. Carrying him such a long distance was already pushing his limits. If not for the power granted by Hashirama's cells, there was no way Obito could have run straight into the Land of Fire without collapsing.
Bang!
Cardo's body hit the ground without the slightest resistance, toppling over like a sack of rocks.
Obito stared at Cardo's massive frame and muttered, "With a body this huge… what on earth did he eat growing up?"
He quickly decided—Cardo would be handed over to Orochimaru for research. He needed to know what exactly this man was.
Obito could sense that Cardo's physical strength might even surpass that of the Fourth Raikage.
This kind of terrifying physique reminded him of the Third Raikage, hailed as the strongest Raikage in history.
After all, the Third Raikage had fought alone against tens of thousands of ninja, battling for three days and three nights before finally succumbing to exhaustion.
"I wonder… between this guy and the Third Raikage, whose physical strength is greater?" Obito murmured.
But since he had never personally witnessed the Third Raikage's battles, there was no way to make a clear judgment.
"Obito-kun, there's no need to get hung up on who's stronger. What matters now is taking out our spoils and counting how much we've earned.
I have a feeling this haul is going to be the biggest we've ever had!" Black Zetsu said excitedly, rubbing his hands together.
Hearing that, Obito finally snapped back to reality. Now wasn't the time to dwell on pointless comparisons—making money was his one and only goal.
Activating his Mangekyō Sharingan, he quickly released all the money he had "earned" from Kumogakure out of the Kamui dimension.
Bundles of banknotes tumbled out, stacking higher and higher as more and more spilled onto the ground.
Before long, the pile of cash had grown into a mountain, filling up nearly two-thirds of the cave's space. Only then did Obito stop.
His eyes began to water uncontrollably. He instinctively raised a hand to wipe them, only to realize blood had already smeared across his vision.
But he had no time to care about his bleeding eyes. His gaze locked onto the towering mountain of money before him, his mouth nearly drooling.
"Holy crap, just how much money is this?!" Black Zetsu gasped in disbelief.
Staring at the staggering mountain of cash, he knew without a doubt—this haul surpassed everything they had ever accumulated before, all combined!
The two of them dove straight into the money mountain, eagerly starting to tally up their gains.
Day turned into night, and night bled back into day.
After an entire day and night of nonstop counting, they finally reached a total.
"F…fifty-one…fifty-eight billion!" Black Zetsu stammered, his voice trembling with excitement.
The moment Obito heard the number, his breathing grew rapid. Fifty-eight billion! Fifty-eight billion! That's fifty-eight billion ryo!
They could hardly believe it. Why on earth would Kumogakure have such massive reserves of wealth? Weren't they always told that the Land of Fire was the richest?
Why was the Hidden Cloud Village sitting on more money than Konoha?
When they looted Konoha, they'd only managed to secure around thirty billion ryo. Yet here, Kumogakure had yielded almost sixty billion!
They couldn't wrap their heads around it. Didn't these shinobi ever spend money?
Whatever the reason, one truth remained: this fortune now belonged to them.
Overwhelmed by the staggering sum, both Obito and Black Zetsu sat dumbfounded, their brains practically starved of oxygen.
After a long silence, the two finally recovered. Trembling, they staggered to their feet, staring speechlessly at the piles of cash.
At last, Black Zetsu spoke up, voice quivering, "O…Obito-kun, let's… let's divide the spoils now!"
Obito swallowed hard. "Alright… my share this time will be twenty-nine billion…"
As he spoke, he activated his Mangekyō, drawing his half of the fortune back into the Kamui space.
Black Zetsu watched him enviously. If only he had his own Kamui space, then he too could store his share safely. But unfortunately, he didn't.
Instead, he could only rely on White Zetsu to guard the money for him. Luckily, White Zetsu were children of the God Tree, absolutely loyal to him. Otherwise, Black Zetsu would never dare entrust them with his fortune.
Suddenly, Obito winced as stabbing pain flared in his eyes, forcing him to clutch at them. He knew instantly—it was the toll of overusing his eyes.
"Looks like I'll need a few days of rest…" Obito muttered under his breath.
Black Zetsu nodded in agreement. "Obito-kun is right. We should rest as well."
The relentless "money-making" spree had already pushed him to his limits. He had originally wanted to rest upon returning, but instead they'd spent another full day just tallying the haul.
Obito nodded. "We'll rest for three days, then regroup here." Saying this, he picked up Cardo once more and carried him out of the cave.
Once Obito was gone, Black Zetsu's eyes gleamed as he gazed at the fortune still left behind. "Hahaha! Just this one job, and I already made twenty-nine billion!"
Adding that to the twenty-six billion he'd previously accumulated, his total now stood at fifty-five billion. In such a short time, he had already amassed nearly a quarter of their grand target.
"Mother… I'll be able to save you very soon!" Black Zetsu cried, tears streaming down his face.
After more than a thousand years, he could finally see hope for freeing his mother.
Quickly wiping his tears away, he reminded himself this was no time for sentimentality. The top priority now was transferring that twenty-nine billion to the secret base.
He shouted loudly, "Ah Fei! Come out and move the money!"
But no one came. The cave remained dead silent.
Assuming Ah Fei hadn't heard him, Black Zetsu called again, louder this time. "Ah Fei! Ah Fei! Ah Fei!"
His voice grew hoarse, yet Ah Fei still didn't appear.
"Did that idiot run off to study poop again?" Black Zetsu muttered irritably.
He then tried summoning other White Zetsu, but just like Ah Fei, there was no response.
"What's going on? Did they all… die?" he whispered, unease creeping into his voice.
A sudden wave of dread washed over him. Sensing something terribly wrong, he immediately sank into the ground, racing toward the secret base.
His heart pounded in panic. What if his base had been discovered? What if the money he had worked so hard to gather was stolen?
Horrific images flashed through his mind: raiders stumbling upon the base, Ah Fei and the others desperately trying to protect the fortune, but being hopelessly outmatched… cut down one by one…
Before long, Black Zetsu arrived at the secret base.
But when he saw the empty, barren interior, his mind went blank.
Clutching his head, he let out a shrill, despairing scream.
"AAAAHHHH!!! Where's my money?! Where did all my money go?!"
And perhaps, only now… could Black Zetsu truly understand what those past victims had felt in that same moment of loss.
