Chapter 19 - “Unseen Sacrifice"

Inside the school washroom, there were still students who had not been infected by the Z-virus.

All of them were sitting separately in different corners of the washroom, except for Sana and Afra, who were sitting together. Right in front of them, leaning against the wall on the right side, Hasnain was sitting, and near him, Saim was seated.

Looking at Hasnain, Saim said in a teasing tone,

"Boss, are you in love with someone?"

Hasnain completely ignored Saim's question and did not respond at all.

Repeating his question, Saim curiously said,

"Come on, boss, tell me—are you in love with someone?"

Hasnain replied seriously,

"Yes, I love a girl…"

Once again, in a curious tone, Saim asked,

"Oh really? What's her name?"

Annoyed by Saim's continuous questions, Hasnain said in an irritated low voice,

"Stop it, Saim. Be quiet now."

Saim thought it best to remain silent.

On the other side, Saad asked Ghani,

"Ghani, tell me—who did you write the letter for? Miss Selena has already turned off the loudspeaker, so now you tell me yourself… who are you in love with?"

Ghani became serious and began speaking with deep sadness,

"I love everyone… I mean, I consider everyone my own. But apart from you friends, no one has ever truly called me theirs—not even my own parents. Just one month after my birth, my mother left me with my dad and went away. When I grew up, I was told the reason was that she fell in love with someone else and divorced my dad to live happily with that man, because he is very rich.

She now has a daughter who is three years younger than me. And on the other hand, my father also remarried and now he has another son—my stepbrother—whom he loves more than me. Often, in the presence of his new family, he completely forgets about me. It's always me who keeps doing mischievous things in front of him just to remind him that I am also his son… but he still keeps ignoring me."

Hearing this, Saim came and sat beside Ghani. Placing a hand on his shoulder, he tried to comfort him and said,

"Hey, friend, you are definitely not someone to be ignored. You are an important member of our gang. You are my closest buddy. So bro, ignore all of them—just focus on us, okay?"

Saying this, Saim gently patted Ghani's shoulder.

Feeling deeply emotional from Saim's words, Ghani said,

"Hey man, stop it… are you trying to make me cry?"

And suddenly, while crying, he hugged Saim, which looked quite funny.

Seeing them, everyone except Michael started smiling.

For Michael, every word and every smile felt like thorns piercing his heart, fueling the fire of revenge burning inside him for his girlfriend's death.

Michael was barely holding himself back from killing Hasnain. Outwardly, he remained silent and tolerated everyone's smiles, but inside, a storm was raging.

He wanted to stand up right then, throw Hasnain out of the window, and kill him—just like he believed Hasnain had thrown his girlfriend.

But the truth was clear: that girl had been bitten by a zombie and was about to turn into one. Hasnain, without wasting even a second, had pushed her out of the window, which led to her death—but in doing so, he saved everyone present there.

However, Michael was not ready to accept this truth. All he saw was Hasnain throwing his girlfriend out of the window. He failed to see that Hasnain had actually saved everyone's lives by doing so…
