The day began as a normal day for Melony Park, who worked as a simple accountant at the Plaza hotel located in the heart of the city where she grew up. Melony was headed to the break room where her friend Emma Jones was sitting impatiently to begin the latest gossip around the workplace.
"Where have you been? I've been waiting like forever... why is it that when you come to the break room before me, you always have to get back to something... you gotta tell the people around here you are a human and need a break too...."
"So sorry Emma, A Customer Just checked in when I got here, so you know the process, it's hard I know, but part of the job.... Hey, how long has my phone been ringing?"
"Like forever..... It's in a silent mood. I usually answer your calls except for the ones that come from your Dad..... Not to mention the fact when he calls it's always trouble,I mean, what does he want from you now that he left your mom for that hideous woman he didn't even bother to think you had just turned five?
" Beats me, It's been so long since I saw him... He never comes to see me, calls when he wants something... what should I do, Emms, should I answer it? I mean I can't ignore him either if he's in some trouble."
"It's a simple answer, girl don't answer the bloody call... I don't like people misuseing that soft heart of yours... Just pretend you never saw your phone ringing"
The rings continued as Melony watched "DAD" on her screen come to an end. To her surprise, there was a notification of many phone calls from her father. This was out of the ordinary, never before had her father phoned her continuously.
"Emms, there's something wrong, there's twenty-seven missed calls just from my dad. And here's another, I think I should take it. not sure what I'm going to say but..." Melony said, biting her lower lip and staring at her friend.
"Okay, I guess you can just answer for a minute to see what he wants....."
Taking a deep breath, Melony tapped the answer on her phone, and a very rough voice spoke in a troubled tone....
"Melony, Thank God you finally answered... It's me, Dad. I'm in town, but please come to the Hospital as soon as possible. Your Mom has been admitted. I can't tell you the details like this..."
Tears welled up in Melony's eyes as she dropped her phone slightly, leaving a crack on her display.
"WHAT? WHAT HAPPENED MEL? WHAT DID HE SAY?" Where the loud shouts of Emma hurrying back to her friend from filling up a glass of water.
"My dad's in town and..... and...."
"I knew something was up, Wait, why are you crying, what has he done?"
"I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not. My mom is in the Hospital, from his tone it didn't sound good either..."
" What? What has happened to Mrs Park? Didn't you say she was fine this morning... and how did he know about it before you?"
"I don't know, I don't know. he said she has been admitted to the hospital and I should come as soon as possible"
"Okay, first things first, let me apply for leave, and then we'll go to the hospital. Drink this, and have your lunch. I will speak to our supervisor"
Melony drank the water, but she couldn't find her appetite; she just kept staring at the wall till Emma came with Melony's and her handbags on her shoulders.
"Come on, Mel, let's go. I called a cab, our supervisor approved leave for me also, and said I should take care of you"
