Sunny's POV
The shadow spear missed Sunny's head by inches, leaving a burning trail through his golden hair.
"Duck!" Zara yelled, spinning through the air as she knocked three light swords away with her wind magic.
Sunny rolled behind a chunk of broken stone, his heart pounding so hard he could barely think. This wasn't how battles were supposed to work. In all his training, he'd imagined fighting monsters or evil creatures—not his own people.
Are you okay? Luna's worried voice whispered in his mind.
I'm fine, he replied, though his hands were shaking. But I don't know how much longer we can keep this up.
The portal flickered again, its purple light growing weaker as more attacks hit it. Families who had been celebrating were now crying and holding each other as magical weapons flew over their heads.
"This is madness!" King Apollo shouted, creating a shield of golden light to protect a group of children. "We're fighting our own citizens!"
