Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Antarctica

[Flashback]

Just a day prior to the Viltrumite Envoy making landfall on Earth. Anissa, General Kregg, and Thragg promptly gathered to discuss the matter.

For the time being, it was the three of them who were ruling the Viltrumite Empire, Thragg was the Emperor, and the other two were his aids. In the future, he planned to expand the governing body, but for now, they simply did not have the personnel for that.

The diplomatic envoy that would be landing on Earth had already been chosen and Thragg had chosen Anissa, since she was already the diplomatic officer for the empire and she would choose any Viltrumite to be her guard. She did not need it but it was a formality.

However, before she was set to leave the Emperor had felt the need to say a few words to her.

Although it was not just to her but to Kregg as well, his words were more like a cautionary warning rather than advice.

"Before you're set to leave for Earth. Anissa, I want you to remember one thing"

His words carried a tone that felt harsh as

He gazed at her with an expression that forced Anissa to suddenly tense up.

"This goes for you too Kregg since you're also most likely to have to interact with humans more often than not."

He told, and two stood in attention, ears open. While the idea was to stay on Earth, repopulate, and in the process change the way Viltrumites operate, that did not necessarily mean Viltrumites had to completely involve themselves with everything that happens on Earth.

As explained, they were not there to invade, so there would be no need to care too much about the ongoings of the humans.

"While we will be settling on earth, it's important to keep in mind that we are visitors as such we must never allow ourselves to be deeply involved in their matters, their politics."

He explained, unlike with Viltrum where they are unified under a single government, the Emperor. Earth was not unified, and the UN was not a unified government but more like a council.

Therefore the political landscape was intensely nuanced, messy, and sometimes bloody.

"It's important that we not be swept up by whatever they do politically, obviously to be completely uninvolved will be difficult, but we must keep things to a minimum. We simply share technology with them. Whatever they use it for is not our business."

He continued, as a former earthling himself Thragg understood what he was saying may come off as a little uncaring and irresponsible but he was well aware that the moment you start picking sides in politics is the moment things go to shit.

It was less about something being a threat to the Viltrumites but more about the fact that politics is nothing but a slew of headaches that never get any better, especially if you lack a fundamental understanding of how things work.

Not to mention Thragg knew he was the type of person who would want to fix problems when he had the means to.

He remembers how back on earth, his earth, permanent members of the UN could just veto any decision, like voting against water being a human right.

He'd never stand for such nonsense, so it was better not to involve the Viltrumites in such things.

Now, if the plan was to conquer Earth, the sure dabbling in their politics was fine. However, that was not the goal, so it was better for them.

"I understand your reasoning Sire, however since we would be most likely settling on one of their many countries, would that not be impossible? Our political affiliation will be implied just by where we choose to settle"

Anissa countered, it did not matter what they wanted, they would need to be cooperative with the government of whatever country they chose, and that would oust them as supporters of whatever political ideology that country follows.

"That's why we will choose to settle on land that isn't tied to any country, land that is politically neutral"

As a former Earthling Thragg had the benefit of knowing of a continent that not only was not inhabited by anyone but it also had no political affiliation and that continent was none other than Antarctica.

"For humans, that region is completely inhospitable. However, for us, with our technology, it should not be difficult"

It was the perfect location, Viltrumites can fly so they can go back and forth, not only that but they can survive the freezing temperatures even without the technology and it would be difficult for humans to traverse ensuring that only people they allow in their settlement would be able to enter.

"But sire, would that not mean we would have to build a new colony on that land, which would severely halt the plans regarding the plans for moon colony"

Kregg countered, Thragg had ordered a colony to be built on one of the moons in this solar system, and so far, everything was still in the planning phase, and no moon had been picked out yet.

Settling in an ice desert like Antarctica will require them to put a stop to the plans to construct a colony.

"You're correct. However, the colony is not an immediate thing. We can simply reschedule"

Thragg shrugged as he said, The colony idea was more of a "don't put your eggs in one basket" type of thing. It was a second option in case the Earthlings decided they didn't want Viltrumites in their home anymore.

"Understood sire"

Kregg saw no reason to object, if the Emperor says so then there was nothing to object to.

….

Anissa now stood up and once again gazed around the room, with a measured glint in her eyes.

The Assembly President had given her the floor to speak of the environmental specifics that the Viltrumites need to survive.

"Thank you, Assembly President Olenna. You ask me to give you the details for the environment my people need, but before I can give you that. I know that we are guests on your planet. However, would it be alright if we chose where we wish to settle?"

Emperor Thragg has already assumed that they would be allowed to pick and choose where they would settle on Earth; however, to her knowledge, no such thing has been discussed yet.

"Any objections to Ms. Anissa's words?"

Assembly President Olenna asked, Her words brought silence to the meeting, a silence that stretched long. However, it seemed that there was no one against the idea of the Viltrumites choosing where to settle.

"Very well, Ms. Anissa, your people will be allowed to choose where to settle. After all, it is you who knows best what environment is good for you"

"Thank you, Assembly President, and thank you to the representatives for their generosity"

She took a bow of her head, further showing her sincerity.

"There aren't many environments that we can not thrive in. As I've stated, our bodies are resilient and have evolved to handle some harsh environments. However, if you are giving us the option, there is a piece of land that is suitable for us."

She gave a short pause to take a breath. She could feel the anticipation that everyone in the room was exhibiting.

"As you know, we had scans of the planet before we made contact, and we've continued to do so before setting foot on the surface. And we've found a single contact that would be suitable for us."

As she continued to speak, Cecil specifically tried to think about what could be suitable for them. He quickly considered their Viltrumite's abilities that they displayed a few minutes ago

He couldn't help but feel a bit of tension in his stomach, it would be a disaster if the environment they choose is a location the GDA cannot monitor regularly or a location they cannot monitor at all.

"From what we've scanned, we found only a single continent to be the perfect location, and that is the continent you call Antarctica"

She announced as she tapped the device on her wrist and showed a holographic topography of the ice continent.

"We found this continent to be suitable mostly because it does not have any indigenous populations as such we wouldn't be taking land from any pre-existing population but also the continent itself is unaffiliated with any of the nations of this planet"

Her words poured water on all the anticipation the representatives felt. Antarctica was the worst location they could have picked as it guaranteed that no government would have the monopoly on viltrumite technology.

.....

A/N: This whole permanent members thing in the UN will forever be Bullshit to me. Everyone could agree on something that would be good for everyone but just one country can say "no" and everyone's vote doesn't matter anymore. Fuck all that noise.

That's a scam and it shouldn't be a thing at all.
