Hades? Pluto Hades? Could it be...
Pierce's eyes widened in recognition. As a top S.H.I.E.L.D. cadre, Nick Fury's right-hand man, and one of HYDRA's supreme commanders in the United States, he was well-versed in mythology. Since its inception, HYDRA had collected mythological texts from all over the world. They had concluded that these so-called gods were simply beings with immense power—perhaps from a different race—who were capable of destroying an entire world.
"Could it be..." Pierce stared at the man in front of him, whose blue pupils and faint aura of death confirmed his identity. "Are you the god of the underworld from Olympus, Lord Hades, who is rumored to control human life?"
"Well, something like that."
Though his own origin was similar to the Pluto of Greek mythology in this world, he was not the same person. Based on his understanding, the gods of this planet were no more than the level of a Celestial Father. Even the half-blind Odin had barely reached the level of a half-universal god with the help of Asgardian power. Aaron, on the other hand, did not belong to the power system of these mythologies.
Convinced that Aaron had admitted his identity, Pierce finally understood that there was no hope for him. His death was a foregone conclusion the moment he coveted the prophetic paintings in Aaron's gallery.
"You've figured it out?" Aaron asked.
That...
Pew!!!
A bullet shot out from an unknown location. It sounded like a high-powered anti-material sniper rifle, but the distance...
"Found you!"
On a tall building not far from the S.H.I.E.L.D. building, a cold voice suddenly echoed in the ears of the ambushed sniper. Before the sniper could react, his eyes went blank and he died.
"I! I don't want to die!!!"
Pierce never got a chance to say those words. Aaron didn't even touch him. After a brief exchange of glances, the man who had served HYDRA for so many years simply went limp and fell to the ground.
The moment Pierce fell, Nick Fury's car arrived. With him was his right-hand man, Agent Phil Coulson, the same good-natured man who had been investigating the Hand's base not long ago.
"Mr. Aaron..." Nick Fury glanced at Pierce on the ground but said nothing.
But Phil Coulson, who was behind him, went over and tore off the clothes of Pierce's corpse, revealing a familiar symbol. "It's HYDRA, just as you said! I never would have thought it was you!"
There was no anger in Fury's voice, which didn't surprise Aaron.
"Mr. Aaron, this must be our first meeting. I am lucky to meet you. Please allow me to formally introduce myself. My name is Nick Fury, the current director of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"Hmm..." Aaron nodded. Fury didn't have a human aura, so he was likely not from Earth.
The matter was concluded. Aaron had exposed a top-ranking official of HYDRA to S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury was about to try and recruit Aaron, but he turned his head and found that Aaron's voice had already faded into the distance.
"When did he leave?"
"I don't know. I have no memory of him leaving," Phil Coulson replied.
"He is a person you should focus on. Do not make an enemy of him, or he may become S.H.I.E.L.D.'s number one enemy."
"Yes, Director!"
Fury nodded, then glanced at Pierce's body on the ground. Pierce had been his old friend for years. He never imagined he was a member of HYDRA. The fact that Aaron had only killed Pierce meant that to him, the other HYDRA members hidden in S.H.I.E.L.D. were probably like ants.
HYDRA! HYDRA!
"Phil Coulson, send out my order. From now on, conduct a thorough investigation of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s internal members. Anyone found to be a member of HYDRA is to be killed!"
"Yes, Director!"
In a state-of-the-art technological building in New York, a group of people in yellow protective suits were researching something, filling the entire building with an unusual aura. In a separate office, a small, strange figure sat on a sofa, communicating via a video screen.
"Dr. Zola, Minister Pierce is dead!"
Boom!!!
On the other side of the screen, an even stranger sight appeared before the little figure.
"MODOK! How did this happen?"
"That person's power is too strange. Pierce didn't even have time to offer any resistance. He died right in front of our people!"
Pierce's death was a huge blow to HYDRA's decades of effort. The confidential technologies hidden in the market and the secret military bases could all be at risk of exposure.
"Does Nick Fury already know Pierce's identity?" a cold, emotionless female voice asked.
"He must," MODOK replied.
"Damn it!" the electronic freak cursed in anger. "This man will be added to HYDRA's number one assassination list!"
