Chapter 4 - HERBERT WILBUR 2

Taking a deep breath, she pushed the doors and stepped in, she didn't know what she was expecting, but she was sure that this was far from it, from where she stood, the only thing she could see it at least her eyes could reach was a never ending hallway which was dimly lit, the gold light casted shadows on both the walls on her left and at her right, the walls were adorned with paintings of ancient times, eras long gone, places which maybe existed once, there were paintings of people whose weren't from this time, the paintings made everywhere feel and look detached from the normal world, as she walked further it felt as though the hands of the clock had been rewind back, she just kept on walking admiring the paintings when everywhere started becoming brighter that was when she realized she had reached the end of the hallway, there was a large window that allowed for the passage of light and at her left and right were turns, like a T-junction.

"Which turn is principal's office?" She asked herself her eyes darting left and right, she ended up taking the right since she believed nothing good came out of going left.

Taking the right turn, Elaine kept walking, but there was no one in site, and here was much more darker than the long hallway she just walked out of, she was contemplating on turning back and taking the left, when she began hearing distant chatters.

"I guess I'm on the right path" she told herself, she kept on walking forward and the voices started becoming louder and louder, but still she could not make out any sensible word from the sounds.

She was still walking when suddenly a very cold and ominous breeze made her stop in her tracks, even as brief as it was, it was enough to send her turning back.

******

"Uhhhh" Elaine let out a loud sigh as she had just finished filling out the remaining requirements with the principal, she had just found at that she would be staying alone, apparently she didn't have a roommate, she's got the room all to herself, it was something to be happy about since she never liked someone invading her privacy, but there was also something upsetting about it.

Elaine just stood at the front of the principal's office not leaving whe she noticed some students looking at her weirdly, some looking older while some younger than her.

Why wouldn't they, she was stupidly standing by herself surrounded with her luggages.

"I shouldn't announce to the school that I'm transferring newly" she said to herself leaving.

Leaving the building, she had asked for some directions and now she was heading towards the dorms, her legs were aching badly as it had been a non stop walking marathon since she highlighted from the car with her mom, as she got closer, she noticed that here was a hundred times more livelier than all the places she had seen since she moved, she began to wonder if this school was the reason why the towns around it were deserted, the excitement that hadn't been there suddenly began to sneak in, some students were outside on pavements, while some were sitting on window sills, some where on the lawn and under the trees.

The building was so vast and large with the same pale white color as the other buildings she had seen.

She walked inside to settle down, but unlike the corridors whe was expecting to see, this was a manor! It was just a large clear space which had giant chandeliers which were burning brightly giving the surrounding a golden hue, the floor was covered with beautifully crafted designs, there was even piano at the far end of the supposed room, this was seriously a 1700s style ballroom, the only thing missing was probably a wine bar, at the corner of the both sides of the room were grand staircases which led to the room upstairs.

"Which school builds room upstairs?" She asked herself completely stunned with this place, it was a four floor building, which meant there should be an elevator, she began walking round the vast room, when she saw the elevator door, but besides it was a plaque which had names of people who invested in the hostel, seeing the plaque one would know that it was from a long time back.

Yvonne Adams

Jacob oak

Owen aetos

Vlad doukas

Theodore Argyros

Andrew Diamandis

Damon Vaemond

At the bottom of the plaque was dated "year 1904"

"Wow" she said to herself.

Getting to her room on the third floor, the first thing her eyes and ear caught WA the giant tree outside the window,

"Oh God" she said out loud, why did the trees have to face here, why?,

She let out a loud shaky sigh as she drew the curtains closed, even as beautiful as the room was, it couldn't still did her of her fear of trees.

She just laid down on the soft bed and closed her eyes and let all the tiredness of the day take her to Dreamland.
