Frightened, I rushed towards them. The houseowner looked furious; that only increased my fear. I asked, trying to stop them, "What are you doing? Stop this."
I tried to stop the people who were throwing my belongings away, but I was no match for their strength.
"Stop this."
The houseowner held my hand tightly and made me look at her as she shouted, "I already told you I'd kick you out if you fail to pay the rent."
"But I did pay…"
"Not fully." She shouted in my face. "I am done with you, young lady. I can't give you more time."
"No, please. Give me one chance." I begged her.
"No!" She dragged me out of the house and to the street.
As it was night, there was barely anyone roaming on the streets, so it saved me from embarrassment.
"One last chance…"
"Don't again come here." With that, she pushed me so hard that I almost fell to the ground, but a pair of hands grabbed my waist, saving me.
For some reason, my subconsciousness believed the man who saved me was Matthew, but only when I looked at him did I realize he was the monster whom I loathed.
"Careful, babygirl." He looked at me with his pity-gleaming eyes.
Immediately, I stood straight and distanced myself from him.
"Mr. Wolfe! What are you doing here?" I switched my gaze between him and my houseowner. I didn't want him to see the position I was in.
He understood the situation and stepped towards the houseowner. She quickly bowed her head as a gesture of respect. After all, he was THE WOLFE.
"Mr. Wolfe! What brings you here?" She asked, confused.
It seemed I was the only one who didn't recognize him in our first meeting. Most of them in the city knew him and recognized him.
"You tell me, what's going on here?"
She switched her gaze between us, wondering how we both knew each other.
She replied, "Nothing serious. She's our tenant, and she didn't pay the rent, so we are helping her vacate."
"By throwing away her belongings?" He raised his eyebrow.
I didn't want him to increase the severity of the situation, so I stepped between them. I said, "Mr. Wolfe! This is my issue. Please don't involve."
As if I were invisible and my words fell on deaf ears, he told her, "I don't want any ruckus on my streets, especially when I'm roaming in silence to get some peace."
The houseowner didn't speak at all but only looked at me furiously.
Mr. Wolfe continued, "So, stop this nonsense and get back to your houses."
Finally, she spoke, mustering up the courage, "But, this is my house, and she isn't paying…"
One glare from him was enough for her to keep quiet.
"I said to stop this nonsense." He shouted, which scared all of us. The noises of throwing the items stopped, and everything went silent in just a minute. "If I say something, it should be obeyed. Who can stop me? And who dares to talk back to me?"
"Mr. Wolfe! I am sorry. I am really sorry." She started begging.
Then she looked at the workers, shouting, "Everyone, leave."
Then he stepped towards her with his intimidating expression, which made her take a quick step back.
"How much does she owe you?"
My eyes widened. I didn't want him to be involved in my matters.
"It's none of your business."
His gaze finally fell on me.
"Mr. Wolfe! Thanks for your help. But please leave. This is my issue…"
He didn't let me finish my sentence but turned to her and said giving his cell phone, "Put your account number."
"No!" I shouted at him, but he ignored me. It didn't take him more than a minute to settle the amount, which only infuriated me.
Mr. Wolfe walked towards his car, and I followed him, shouting, "Stop this nonsense. I know you are doing this to get me to sign…"
He pulled me by my waist and pinned me to the car, which startled me. Gripping my hands on either side, he stood so close to me and looked at me with his scary eyes while saying in his intimidating voice, "I did that because I didn't want you to lose your shelter and sleep on roads."
His grip tightened further more as he continued, "I won't ask you to sign the contract because I paid your rent. Are we good now?"
He left my hands, got inside his car, and finally drove off.
What the hell happened?
