I raised my head to look at Mr. Wolfe, who kept his gaze on me. I was already irritated and angry with everything that happened, and his presence only intensified my emotions.
"What do you want?" I shouted, standing straight.
He sat on the chair, crossing his legs. "I don't want anything, but I got to know that you are in need of something."
I bit my lips worried, as he knew my situation.
He raised his eyebrows, saying, "Do you need my help?"
I couldn't bring myself to say 'yes,' so I kept quiet. It was not difficult for him to notice my desperation.
He waited for me to answer, but when I didn't speak, he stood straight, saying, "Just say yes. I'll not just pay for the treatment, I'll buy this damn hospital for you."
His words made my heart pound. There was a kind of malice in his eyes contradicting the depth of his tone.
He brought his fingers near my cheek, which made me take a step back in an instant. His presence only screamed danger.
A smirk appeared on his lips, and he took his hand back. As we both looked at each other, silently, Matthew's tone interrupted us.
"Elira?"
My eyes widened in fear. Knowing one simple connection was enough for him to understand my involvement with the nightclub.
As Mr. Wolfe and Matthew stood face-to-face, my entire body started to tremble. One wrong move, and everything that I built with Matthew would collapse.
"Matt?"
Matthew looked at Mr. Wolfe as if he was scanning him. A kind of admiration sparkled in his eyes while his eyes fell on his branded suit and luxury items he wore. Whereas, Mr. Wolfe looked at him with his intimidating eyes, but soon they turned indifferent as if we were not even worthy of any expression.
A normal person without any secrets would introduce them, but in my situation, I didn't understand what to say. I only looked at Mr. Wolfe, begging with my eyes to leave. He let out a sigh and walked away as if he read my mind.
"Who's he?"
Ignoring Matthew, I sat on the chair, relaxed. I took deep breaths, feeling happy that I successfully avoided the situation.
"Elira! Who's he?" Matthew asked me again.
"He…" I bit my lips, not knowing what to say. "I don't know. We bumped into each other."
"He looks like a big shark." He scoffed. "Someone with power and money."
I simply nodded my head. He continued, "Did you notice his watch? It's a rare one. Maybe he's someone who's into businesses. He must be an idol for many people like me. If only we knew his name, it would've been easy…"
I interrupted him. "I know how much you admire people with power and how ambitious you are, but Matt, I don't want to hear about it now."
I put my palms on my face, feeling conflicted. The person whom I loathed started to become an idol for the person whom I adored.
"Hey! I am sorry. I just…" He looked at me apologetically.
"No, it's okay." I smiled at him. Then I held his hand, saying, "I talked to the doctor. He can't help Mira. We only have one day."
He rubbed his temples with his fingers, worried. He pressed his hands together, letting out a frustrated sigh.
"I am sorry I am not of much help."
"Don't be."
I fell into my thoughts. Mr. Wolfe's words kept revolving in my head, and for a moment I thought of the bad things that would happen to me if I signed the contract. Like before, I again fell into a situation where I had to choose between Mr. Wolfe and my fate.
Suddenly, his act of paying off my rent flashed into my head. It usually takes some good part of anyone to help others without expecting anything in return. He had the chance to use it against me, but he didn't.
Maybe, just maybe, he was a good person, and there was a chance of being safe even if I signed the contract. I couldn't help but thought of it.
"I can request our school dean for early pay." Matthew interrupted my thoughts. "I can also request him to at least lend me some money, but I can't guarantee if he can do that."
The guilt started to hit me so bad that I again started to cry. Because of me, Matthew was thinking of being indebted to the dean.
"It's all my fault."
"No, it's not." He embraced me. "I told you I'd do something. Let me try this."
He then stayed with me for a while, taking care of things, and in the evening he left. As it was an emergency situation, I began staying at the hospital most of the time while trying to gather as much money as possible.
It turned dark, but I didn't leave the hospital despite being told to leave many times. While I waited for Matthew's call, the doctors rushed to Mira's room, which frightened me.
"What happened?" I asked the nurse.
She didn't reply but hurried inside. Sweat formed all over looking at the situation before me. I stood outside, beyond scared, and the disappointed look on the doctor's face when he came out only frightened me more.
"Doctor?"
"We don't have much time. It's up to you now."
My vision blurred, and everything around me turned blank. The fact that I was not able to save my sister started to kill me. I didn't understand what to do.
No! I knew exactly what to do, but I had been selfish and chose my life instead of my sister's.
Turning to the exit, I ran away. My steps took me to the place that I always hated. I ended up in a VIP room of Hydes.
And, there he was. Sipping his drink and waiting for me.
The next words that came out of my mouth brought a big smirk on his face.
"Save my sister. I will sign the contract."
