(Elira's POV)
Like he said, he didn't force me to sign the contract just because he paid off my rent. After that incident, we met many times at the club, but he didn't bring up the topic of the money or the rent. It was always about serving him or ending up in embarrassing situations.
There was no reason for him to pay off my rent, and it kind of burdened me. It started to weigh on my head. The feeling of owing to him started to make me restless, but to end it, I didn't have money for him.
I put my hands on my head, sitting on the bed. Despite how much I tried to avoid him entering my head, my trials were in vain. For years, he was the only one who actually got me out of a problem. Even though it was unbelievable, he truly helped me.
"Why did you do that?" I gritted my teeth, talking to myself. "I don't want to believe there's some good left in you."
Then I checked all my savings and cash I had. It was not enough to pay him, so I decided to include him in my monthly payments. Like how I had been paying the loan sharks, I included Mr. Wolfe with them.
As I kept thinking about him, Matthew's message popped up. We got so close that it almost felt like we started dating even though we didn't properly confess to each other.
"What's up?" - Matthew
"Nothing. Lying on the bed." I replied.
He then sent me the image of a job posting. It was about assisting the manager in running a hotel.
As if I was not suffering enough, even job searching started to push me off the edge. Even when I was a teenager, I easily got part-time jobs, but from the past few days, it became so tough to get any small job.
"Sure, Matt. Thanks." I sent it with a smiling emoji.
As I kept looking at the posting, I got a call from the attending nurse. Immediately, I answered, "Hello!"
"Ms. Yung! Your sister's condition relapsed. We need you here. Can you visit the hospital?"
My eyes widened in fear, and my fingers trembled. "Sure!"
I cut the call and hurriedly reached the hospital. My heart didn't stop racing, and my eyes filled with tears when I thought of the worst thing that could happen to her.
"What happened to her?" I asked the doctor, who was rushing to the emergency room. He didn't reply but walked away, hurriedly.
There was no one to answer, which only heightened my fear. Everyone was busy treating my sister. I only stood outside the door, trying to stay calm when in reality my tears rolled down my cheeks.
Clutching my hands, I only prayed to God to save her. I couldn't do anything but pray for her health. After what felt like an eternity, the doctor came out of the room and responded, "Her condition has become worse. It's really a miracle that she survived all these years."
My sobs went heavy. I cried out loudly, unable to hold my emotions back. "Please don't say that."
"Please calm down." He looked at me with pity. "If only you could control your emotions, I could discuss more about it."
I nodded, taking a deep breath. We then reached his room, and he offered me a glass of water to calm down.
He said, "Her condition itself is bad, but to her bad luck, she has immunity issues. Even though we try, her body doesn't support much. But, there is something we can try…"
"Then please try. What's stopping you?" I said, holding onto the small hope.
He let out a sigh, looking at my situation. "It's not that we don't want to… but…"
"But what?" I shouted.
"There's a doctor who's specialized in such cases. We need him now, and it takes more money. And…" He looked at me hesitantly as if he was battling with himself to speak.
"And?" I narrowed my eyebrows.
"We only have three days to at least stabilise her condition, if not… she'll die this time."
That was it. My world shattered.
