Five years and three months ago
"Honey! We just got a call from headquarters! We are to head out now, demons have attacked the city!" Juliet said hurriedly, staring at her husband with her phone in hand.
"Demon? I thought their next attack would be in another 2 years!" He sighed lightly. "This is unexpected! Let's just suit up and head out, we have no say in the matter!" Oliver slowly stood up and went upstairs with his wife following closely behind him.
About ten minutes later, they both came down, suited up in contrasting armors. While the woman wore a slightly bulky blue shiny armor, that complimented her blue eyes and hair, the other wore a bright red light armor. The pressure emanating from them both made it feel like the house was shaking.
"Mom.... Dad! W—where are you going?" A small trembling voice suddenly called out. The woman smiled lightly as she approached the young boy who stared at them, his bright blue eyes shining with innocence.
She squatted in front of him, the cold aura that once surrounded her disappeared instantly turning into a warm aura of love and care.
"My dear!" She brushed his hair lightly with her hand, "Mommy and Daddy got called for a mission and we need you to stay in your room and wait for us. Okay!"
"B—but what if you don't come back!" He questioned, his eyes shaking slightly.
"Of course we will come back, Aria!" Oscar said as he walked over as well, a bright smile shining on his face. "Don't you believe in your mom and dad?"
"Of course I believe in mom and dad— they are the strongest!" Aria smiled.
"Good! Then wait for us, okay! We will be back before you know it!" Juliet replied as she walked towards the door with Oliver.
"Okay!" Aria whispered as he stared at their backs as they walked out. He was already used to them leaving him alone in the house every once in a while. Both his mom and dad had abilities and were termed as specialists.
And although they had abilities, he was unlucky to be born without one. After finding out such news he was devastated, he had always wanted to be a specialist like his mother and father, but his dreams were killed when he heard he would never be able to get a specialty.
He suddenly became an outcast among his friends. That's how it's always been with the 5% that didn't get a specialty.
Seeing how depressed he had become, his father took it upon himself to train him. Even though he had no specialty, he was still considered a genius, sucking in everything his father taught him. Before he knew it, he could already make use of most of not all martial arts.
That gave him hope, and he owed it all to his parents. But now he was worried. What if they didn't come back?
He had to trust their words, they would come back, just like the other days they went on missions.
So he waited, his eyes wide open as the night passed away slowly, the only thing running through his mind— his parents walking through that door.
Before he knew it, the sun had come up, signifying morning. He lay on the ground, holding his wooden sword tightly as the sun rays shined on his face.
Suddenly a loud knock resonated. His tired eyes instantly shone with excitement as he rushed to the door.
"Mom... Dad!" He quickly opened the door, his smile slowly fading as he stared at the average man who stood above him. He had an average athletic build, with an average face. In fact, everything about him was basically average. He wore a black overalls with golden trims at the edges. Three stars shone brightly on his chest signifying he was from the army.
"Excuse me! Is this the Reid family residence?" He questioned.
"Yes! Yes it is.... Are my parents behind you?" Aria shot continued to peek behind him checking if maybe they wanted to surprise him.
"So you must be Aria Reid?" The man whispered to himself, much to Aria's hearing before continuing. "I'm sorry to break it to you kid, or I'm sorry it came like this, but your parents— Oliver and Juliet Reid are no more! They died while battling demons!"
Aria's eyes widened, "No! No! No! That's impossible, they promised to come back— they don't break their promises!" He chuckled lightly. "Okay! I understand now! Mom, Dad, you can come out now, I know this is a joke!"
The man's expression suddenly darkened as he watched Aria laugh to himself. 'They already told me that the two had a son, but I don't expect him to be this young!'
He placed his hands gently on Aria's shoulder, "Look kid! This is serious! Your parents died during the battle with the demons!" The man breathed in. "People die, kid! That's just the harsh reality of this world! I know you will need some time to digest all this so I will leave it at that, but the army will provide all your needs till you reach the age requirement to enter any academy of your choice—"
"—That can't be true! You're lying!" Aria suddenly slapped the man's arms of his shoulder, "Just get out!" He exclaimed, running back into the house, tears streaming down his eyes.
"... Kids this days!" He sighed softly as he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and put it into his mouth before lighting it and waking away.
After walking for about three minutes, he finally reached his car. "You know! For normal specialist, this place is quite big!" He whispered to himself as he pulled out his keys. He placed his thumb on it and his car made a beebing sound signifying it was opened.
As he was about to enter, a huge explosion suddenly rocked the whole area
*BOOM*
"What the hell!" The man said as he turned to look at the house, a pillar of smoke rising from within the house, flames burned brightly engulfing the house in a matter of second.
The man hurriedly rushed to the house, reaching the front door in a matter of seconds.
"This aura—" he whispered, sweat streaming down his face as he stared at the red terrifying aura that engulfed the building. "This— how did a demon break in here without me noticing?" He questioned with a pondering expression.
"Wait— that kid— he's still in there!"
The man hurriedly grabbed a transparent communication device from his pocket.
"This is Lieutenant Gregor— high-level lesser-demom spotted! I need immediate backup! NOW!
He dropped the communication device and rushed into the building, his hair began to float as well as things around him. A black armor slowly etched unto his body as he walked upstairs. Reaching the door, he immediately kicked it open.
"Kid! Are you okay—"
His eyes suddenly widened as he stared at the sight before him. "Just what is going on here?"
