Stephen relayed everything in detail to Nicholas, Rachel's insistence on privacy and how she carefully diverted any mention of the child in her house and the name of the child changing from David to Daniel in an instant.
Nicholas leaned back in his chair, fingers under his chin, deep in thought, taking in everything Stephen told him. It all unsettled him.
Was she lying?
Had she truly moved on?
Was she really hiding something?
After a long pause, he finally spoke to Stephen,
"Set up another meeting, somewhere private," he said quietly, "I need to look her in the eye again."
Meanwhile, Rachel stayed up all night in her room, her laptop screen glowing in the dark room as she dug through public records, articles and business reports, anything that could give her leverage on Nicholas. But no matter how deep she searched, everything about his company seemed at peace.
