Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - The Failed Revenant

Shin Seungwoo was barely holding on to his consciousness. His abdomen was pierced by the demonic dragon's fist. He was the last human who survived the apocalypse.

『Shin Seungwoo. I acknowledge that you are the strongest human I've ever met.』

The demonic dragon glared at him coldly.

『But no matter how much you struggle, in the end, you will die without accomplishing anything.』

The demonic dragon laughed like a madman, mocking him as if everything Seungwoo had done was meaningless. And he wasn't wrong—because in the end, everyone had died because of him.

『If only I realized sooner that the apocalypse was coming, maybe I could've prepared for the worst.』

『If only I warned Baek Seolhwa, the acting vice commander of the Hwarang Guild... maybe they'd still be alive and fighting beside me. But those fucking bastards betrayed us for"Immortality". I swear I'll kill them if I meet them in the afterlife.』

『If only I arrived sooner... or even later. I could've seen Mom and Dad one last time. That cheeky Shin Yuna would've called me her useless brother again. Damn it... I miss Mom's cooking.』

『If only…』

The demonic dragon noticed the last bit of life fading from him. He spoke one last time.

『Any last words?』

Seungwoo glared at the monster. He already knew he had no chance of winning. But that didn't mean he'd give up.

"…Fuck off."

He opened his mouth and bit down on the Regressor Stone.

He never believed in second chances. He thought regression was bullshit. But this relic was found on the highest floor of the Tutorial Area and his final gamble.

The demonic dragon frowned at the unexpected move. Humans were more annoying than insects. With one clean swoop, he swung his arm and severed Seungwoo's head.

The last thing he remembered before dying was the system message.

[You have fulfilled the condition.]

[Regressor Stone has been activated.]

[Reversing time…]

[Warning: Everything will be reset. Memory stability is not guaranteed.]

[Regression successful.]

Then, everything went black.

The last thing Seungwoo felt… was a strange warmth pulling him away from death.

"Ugh…"

A sharp pain struck his forehead. His mind spun as countless memories flooded in—every detail from his past life, including the moment he was killed by the demonic dragon.

"Ah… I'm still alive? Is such a thing possible?"

Seungwoo slowly looked up at the mirror in front of him. What stared back was the face of a teenager of himself 20 years ago. Before he was devoured to the Abyss.

"Hey, Seungwoo, you fucking bastard! Are you listening?"

That familiar voice. That disgusting, irritating voice.

He turned his head slowly and stared at the punk standing in front of him.

Kang Ji Soo.

Back then, Seungwoo's family was dirt poor. That alone made him a perfect target.

However, this time was different.

"Kang Ji Soo. You're still the same pathetic bastard. I don't have time for your bullshit, so get out of my way."

"Hah? What the fuck did you say? You think you're tough now, Seungwoo? I must've gone easy on you all this time. Boys, surround him! Make sure he doesn't run!"

Kang Ji Soo and his lackeys surrounded him, but Seungwoo had already expected this.

"Tch... what a petty bastard," he muttered under his breath. "Of course he wouldn't just let it go."

The tall lackey moved first, stepping in with a quick jab aimed straight at his face.

Seungwoo tilted his head slightly, dodging it with ease.

"Too slow," he said coldly.

He countered immediately, slamming his fist into the guy's stomach.

"Guh—!"

The lackey let out a gasp and collapsed to the floor.

Thud!

Another lackey rushed from behind and tried to grab him.

Without turning, Seungwoo stomped on his foot without hesitation.

"Argh!"

He followed it up with a sharp elbow to the nose.

Crack!

As the guy staggered, Seungwoo spun around and delivered a clean roundhouse kick to the jaw.

The lackey flew sideways, crashing into the sink and lost consciousness.

"Two down," Seungwoo said flatly.

"Son of a bitch!!" Kang Ji Soo screamed in rage and charged at him, throwing a wild punch.

Seungwoo calmly raised his arm to block.

"...Is that all you got?"

He punched Kang Ji Soo straight in the face.

Kang Ji Soo's head slammed into the mirror behind him.

Crash!

The mirror shattered. Footsteps were heard from the hallway, people were approaching.

Seungwoo clicked his tongue and turned away without another word.

He walked out casually as the bathroom door creaked open and students began to gather inside, staring at the bloody scene in shocking silence.

Students started whispering all over the hallway.

"Hey, hey are you serious? Kang Ji Soo got knocked out by that guy? That Seungwoo or whatever his name is?"

"No way… Kang Ji Soo isn't some pushover. He's the strongest in the first year, and he just got beaten just like that?"

"I thought Seungwoo was just some loser who didn't know his place."

"And did you hear? Some of the upperclassmen already know. They're not going to stay quiet after this. Kang Ji Soo had connections."

"Tch… he really did it. What an idiot. Even if he's strong, he messed with the wrong guy."

Seungwoo heard the whispers of the crowd, but he didn't care. The world is ending. But before that happened, he needed to go home and warn his parents.

He looked at the time. It was 2:45 p.m. He went straight to Gangnam Station and bought some things from the nearby convenience stores.

"I've got everything I need. Food, water, and the basic necessities."

He still remembered the time he ate monster meat just to survive. It tasted awful and disgusting.

"Ugh…"

There was no time to waste. Sooner or later, the peaceful society would fall apart. The creepy-looking fairy that called itself the "Administrator" would appear in the other dimensions.

"Seungwoo-oppa? Why did you come home early? Did something happen?"

Standing by the door of their small apartment was his little sister. She was probably just about to leave for school.

Seungwoo looked at her. He hadn't seen her since the world ended.

"Yuna…" he called her name and embraced her tightly.

Shin Yuna was shocked that her big brother suddenly hugged her. Her face turned red.

"Seungwoo-oppa, you pervert. Hugging your sister in broad daylight? This is sexual harassment. I'm telling mom and dad."

She tried to tease him, but when she saw him crying, she didn't say anything more. She hugged him back and smiled softly.

"Seungwoo-oppa… I don't know what happened, but I'm not going anywhere. Welcome home."

After the reunion of Seungwoo and his little sister Yuna, he was quite satisfied. He never expected to see her once again.

"Yuna. I want you to listen to me carefully. There's no time to waste," Seungwoo said, his voice cold and firm.

Yuna nodded with a helpless smile. She could feel it. Her brother had changed. He was hiding something. But she didn't ask. She chose to trust him, hoping that one day he would tell her everything.

"No matter what happens, don't go outside."

"If you get hungry, just eat whatever's in the refrigerator."

"Also, call mom and dad. Make an excuse, like I'm sick, and try to convince them to come home early."

"And if anyone knocks on the door asking for help, don't open it unless I give you permission."

"I don't understand what is happening but I will put my trust in you, Seungwoo-oppa. I will call mom and dad immediately." She hurriedly said and went back to her room.

Seungwoo was surprised. He never expected his little sister to listen to his words. He put all the food and drinks into the refrigerator and placed the basic necessities in the drawer.

"Seungwoo-oppa, I've called Mom and Dad. She said they're coming home," Yuna said while holding the phone.

Seungwoo patted her head, and she smiled happily.

"Good job, Yuna."

Seungwoo felt a sense of relief. At least now, he wouldn't have to worry about his family after he was transported to the other dimensions.
