*Chapter 26: The PROBE*
The authorities launched an investigation into Alexander's family's business dealings, and Sophia and Alexander were called in to testify. They spent hours answering questions and providing evidence, and Sophia could see the weight of the situation bearing down on Alexander.
As they left the investigation office, Alexander's phone rang. He answered it, his expression growing increasingly tense. "What's wrong?" Sophia asked, noticing the change in his demeanor.
"It's my father," Alexander said. "He's been released on bail, and he's threatening to take action against us."
Sophia's eyes widened. "What kind of action?" she asked.
Alexander's jaw clenched. "I don't know, but I have a feeling it's going to be bad. We need to be careful, Sophia. My father will stop at nothing to protect himself and our family's reputation."
Sophia nodded, feeling a shiver run down her spine. She knew that Alexander's father was ruthless, and she was worried about what he might do.
As they walked away from the investigation office, Sophia noticed a figure watching them from across the street. It was a woman with a determined look on her face, and Sophia felt a sense of unease.
"Alexander, look," Sophia said, nodding towards the woman.
Alexander followed her gaze, and his expression darkened. "That's one of my father's associates," he said. "I think we're being followed."
Sophia's heart racing, she quickened her pace. She knew that they had to be careful, but she wasn't sure what they were up against.
As they turned a corner, the woman disappeared into the crowd. But Sophia knew that they weren't safe yet. Alexander's family would stop at nothing to silence them, and Sophia was determined to stay one step ahead.
