Selene's guards lifted Thornak's heavy frame and carried him through the winding corridors, his weight sagging between them. They brought him to a secluded chamber at the far end of the hall, away from curious eyes. The iron key turned in the lock with a harsh click, sealing him inside.
Selene lingered at the door, her lips curving into a satisfied smile. At last, the king was exactly where she wanted him.
A few minutes later, Selene slipped back into the chamber. It was dark except for the pale moonlight spilling through the balcony. She stood in the darkness for a long moment, watching his still form sprawled across the bed.
Slowly, she loosened the ties of her gown and let the fabric fall to the floor. Then, with a satisfied sigh, she slid beneath the covers beside him, her eyes gleaming with triumph.
One of Selene's guards entered the ballroom, his face was pale as he spoke to Alpha Theron and Luna Maris.
