Chapter 13 - Desperate times.

"Does the change in order also change the meaning?!" Alexis asks.

"Do we even have a way to contact the goddess!?" Heather exclaims.

"Calm down you two. Rava's not freaking out so neither should you." The queen says.

"I can't believe that even in a wooden statue form those mutts were still more important than us." Rava mumbles.

"This is ridiculous. I say you three tie her up and breed her a new pack!" The king says.

"That wouldn't work. She would never accept their blood as her pack." The elder wolf says.

"Why not?!" The king exclaims.

"Why would she?" The elder wolf asks.

"Because they would still be her child. That has to count for something right?" The queen says.

"Do you not see her? No wolf should even reach this point! Not to mention her self-preservation isn't here right now. So anything resembling her isn't going to make her care either." The elder wolf points out.

"Fine then. We'll get her a new pack." Rava says.

"It's not that simple." The elder wolf states.

"It was pretty simple for her to form a bond with that mini mutt." Heather argues.

"It was a kid. Any wolf who isn't protective of a child isn't a real wolf." The elder wolf explains.

"But you just said it wouldn't matter if that child was hers or not she wouldn't accept it." Rava says.

"But I doubt she'll let the child get hurt. Unless of course her wolf recedes into her mind and her human has no sense of family or any type of bond." He explains.

"Does that happen often?" The queen asks.

"Male wolves no. It would have to be something so bad that the wolf and human feel like weak little pups that should have been playing with dolls instead of mud their whole lives." He states.

"Wait why you say male wolves? Shouldn't it be more or less the same for all wolves?" Alexis asks.

"No. Wolves are vicious. So females especially warriors or omegas know very well that they could end up with the enemy and assaulted. And who knows what else. But wolves are still pretty traditional. You'll mainly see males as the alphas and leaders on our council. And it's common for our females to be stay at home parents. Which emotionally makes them more equal to a human female in a situation like that." He explains.

"Ok so percentage wise if 100 males and 100 females separately were to be in a situation like say this and forced to have a family what is the likelihood of their wolves receding and the human having no sense of a bond?" Rava asks.

"For the males about 15% and the females can be about 55-60%." He answers.

"What?!" The vampires gasp.

This conversation actually brought back a talk I had with my pack. We were talking about how we didn't quite smell like rogues but we also didn't have a pack scent.

Which was mainly due to us being nomadic. Pack scents come from the wolves but also the environment.

So a pack with a lot of maple trees will have a pack scent resembling syrup. A pack by the ocean will have some water or just a salty scent.

And because of us not having a real scent but also passing by pack territory we often got questioned and stopped.

We had just gotten stopped for like the fifth time that day and was released when Elder brother said something stupid like he thought he was going to have to seduce our way to freedom.

Which got elder sister to smack him upside the head and say if he tried to seduce anyone it would have made things worse and we would have been executed.

Then second brother said that we all know he is the most dashing so of course he'll have to seduce us to freedom.

And I said oh please if any one would be able to seduce us to freedom it'd be second sister. Which got her to blush and me pinched.

Then elder sister asked why not her. And I said because these packs aren't really warrior packs.

So second sister with her more caring nature and softer features would have been the best option.

Then the rest of the day was spent theorizing seduction plans. Aka if we were ever caught how to best determine which of us would be able to get us out.

Heh.. if only we had a plan on psycho half vampire royalty on a killing spree. Then maybe I could have saved them...

"...

..ey..

Hey..

Hey kid!" The elder wolf says shaking me back to reality.

I felt him wipe something off my face and that's when I realized I was crying.

"I looked over and saw you crying while smiling at that statue of your pack. What's up?" He says gently.

I nod slightly and dry my eyes myself.

"At least she's responding a bit more." Alexis says.

"Ok anyone who isn't a wolf get out." The elder wolf says.

"Not happening." Heather says.

"If I can get her to open up then maybe I can keep her calm but she won't open up with you here." He argues.

"Fine. But we're locking the door and if we don't hear anything from you within two hours we're bursting in and the king and queen will punish you." Rava says.

"Well damn. You're definitely the one in charge of making the contracts." The elder wolf says.

"I'm just desperate for results. Don't make me regret it." She says and then she drags the others out.

"If that's her desperate then she must be quite the bitch of a negotiator." He sighs.

I couldn't help but chuckle at that.

"Look at this you're coming back. Now.. mind telling me what caused those tears?" He asks.

"I was thinking of something stupid that my pack and I talked about." I say.

"You talked!!" He exclaimed.

"That was fast!" The triplets say bursting in.

"Damn can't you give this poor girl a fucking moment alone?!" The elder wolf exclaimed.

"Shut up! Can you talk again?" Alexis says right in front of me.

Thinking about my pack brought me back a bit more so I decided to do something to piss them off.

I moved away from Alexis and went to the elder wolf and grabbed onto his arm.
