I watched Zara's face as she glared at me, her arms crossed defiantly. We stood just outside my office, and the tension between us was growing by the second. Her stubbornness had been building since the moment we had the conversation about going out with Kyle. Now, she was pushing back again, challenging me, and, to be honest, I was getting tired of it.
"Even if we're going with your Beta, I still won't feel okay. Two guys? Really?" she asked, her tone sharp.
I narrowed my eyes at her. "You don't have a choice, Zara," I replied, trying to keep my voice calm. "This isn't a discussion."
She stepped closer, her voice rising. "I'm telling you I don't feel comfortable. Is that so hard for you to understand?"
I crossed my arms and let out a sigh. "It's not about what makes you comfortable. I need to get something done, and you're coming with me. You'll be safe. You have my word."
"That's not good enough, Xavier!" she shot back.
