I woke up to the sterile scent of the infirmary, the faint beeping of monitors, and the overwhelming confusion of not knowing where I was. My body felt heavy, like I'd been hit by something massive. My throat was dry, and a dull ache pulsed through my limbs. The last thing I remembered was the cold, dark cell, the strong fear, and then… nothing.
I blinked a few times, trying to gather my thoughts. How did I end up here? What had happened?
The door creaked open, and a man walked in—a doctor, from the looks of his white coat and stethoscope. He glanced at me briefly before making his way to check the charts by my bedside.
"You're awake," he said, his voice steady, though there was something in his eyes that felt watchful, guarded.
I swallowed, my voice hoarse when I spoke. "What… what happened to me?"
