Chapter 22
Xavier
After checking on Zara in the infirmary, the doctor reassured me that she would wake up before daylight. I wasn't entirely convinced, but for now, there was nothing more I could do. Zara was stable, and all I could do was wait. I hated waiting—especially when it involved her.
As I turned to leave, I caught myself glancing back at her, lying there so still. She looked fragile, vulnerable even. That wasn't the Daphne I knew. The woman I remembered was strong-willed, defiant to a fault, but seeing her like this... it stirred something in me I couldn't quite place.
Shaking off the thought, I walked out of the infirmary and found one of the maids standing nearby.
"Prepare a room for her," I ordered. "Decorate it with purple."
The maid looked up at me, a little surprised. "Purple, Alpha?"
"Yes, purple," I snapped, though I softened my tone slightly. "She always liked it when we were younger. Let's see if she still does."
