The doctor packed up his things and quietly left the room after giving me a final look as if he were expecting me to ask more questions. I didn't. My head was already spinning with a headache The moment the door clicked shut behind him, I stood to leave when Frank stormed in, eyes blazing.
"Are you out of your mind?" he barked, fists clenched at his sides. "Why the hell did you go behind my back?"
I ran a hand over my face, already tired of this conversation before it even began. "Frank, I'm sorry," I said, even though I didn't feel it. "But I can save whoever I want. And kill whoever I want, too."
That last part hit harder than I expected, judging by the way his jaw tightened. He stared at me for a beat, like he was trying to decide whether to punch me or keep arguing. He chose the latter.
"You think you can just—"
"I can, Frank," I cut him off, keeping my voice steady. "And I did."
