In the laboratory, Ren didn't think as much as the other side imagined. In this detective-centered world, he didn't make his living as a detective. The last time he solved a case, he had used artificial intelligence.
There was no way he would think as much as a real detective, nor did he choose to hack into the other party's phone. He wasn't that idle—his research already took up most of his time.
Revealing his identity in front of Conan was just for fun, to scare him a little, and to lift his own mood.
"Hm? They're coming this way? Have they found this place?" Ren didn't understand why they had discovered it. He quickly called Shiho and Akemi to gather in the living room.
"Ren?" The Miyano sisters met up with him.
"Several people are heading here. Looks like we've been exposed." Thanks to the boosts he gained from other worlds, his strength had risen to a terrifying level.
"Call Gin and the others," Shiho said directly.
Ren immediately called Gin. The line was busy. No one answered. He frowned.
It seemed the other side had seized this chance to wipe them out completely. But when exactly had they been exposed?
At that moment, Ren thought of Conan. He had only ever revealed his organization's identity in front of that "God of Death" detective once.
Could that detective really achieve this much from just that one encounter? It was hard to believe.
Ren pushed aside his playful attitude. The world he was in was different from the worlds of the other Rens.
This was a detective's world—detectives, the "red side," and criminals, the "black side" and detectives could all uncover the truth from the smallest clues.
Compared to them, the heroes and villains of other worlds were far too immature.
"Interesting. The three of us are actually quite weak here." Ren glanced at Shiho and Akemi. They could be considered dead weight. The first-floor security was naturally no match for professional agents.
"What should we do next?" Shiho remained relatively calm.
"They still have some time before they reach here. Gather all staff and security. Move everything out, then blow this place up."
"Will there be enough time?" Shiho knew Ren's security system could only detect up to one hundred meters around.
"Judging by their travel speed, about ten minutes. All my data has backups. We just need to destroy this place. What about yours?"
"I don't have much in paper form. Most of it is in my computer. Copying it will take time."
"Only copy the important ones. You have three minutes—take as much as you can. Bring all the medicine and the lab mice from successful experiments." Ren spoke while giving instructions over the phone.
Miyano Akemi stayed silent. At this moment, she had no useful advice to offer.
The organization's efficiency was terrifying. In less than five minutes, cars were already speeding away.
They had already planted plenty of explosives here beforehand. All they had to do now was detonate them, making the process quick.
This was now a real race against time. Miyano Shiho and Miyano Akemi left early, leaving Ren to handle the ending.
"One minute earlier than I expected, huh?" Ren exited through the back door, sensing the people lying in ambush nearby.
He felt a pang of regret for the laboratory. To evacuate quickly, they couldn't take the equipment or computers—only the core data. But there was no other choice. He had less than ten minutes left.
Hiding in a corner, he waited for the security system's alarm to trigger. Staring at the monitor, Ren was ready to detonate the explosives at any moment.
Near the company's main entrance.
Akai Shuichi wasn't here—he was on a distant rooftop, acting as a sniper.
The Public Security Bureau officers were about to move in when Furuya Rei stopped them.
"They've already evacuated. From the traces, it's been less than five minutes," one officer said, crouching to examine the ground.
"Inform the Traffic Department to cooperate. Don't intercept them—monitor their route in real time." Furuya Rei ordered immediately.
Most members of the organization carried firearms, so having traffic police tail them would be dangerous.
"If it's only been five minutes, the data inside should still be there," another officer said.
"It doesn't matter. We won't get it." Furuya Rei shook his head. He had gone undercover in the organization and knew exactly what they were like.
The moment they entered, they would be blown to pieces. He ordered the team to retreat to a safe distance.
Hearing their plans through surveillance, Ren sighed. He admitted he wasn't as skilled as those detectives or police officers, but he couldn't waste any more time. He pressed the button and turned to leave.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
The entire building erupted into flames. Debris from the explosion tore through the surrounding structures.
Thanks to retreating into a corner, the Public Security officers, Conan, and the others avoided injury.
"Damn it." Conan understood now — this was exactly how the Organization operated.
They actually dared to directly set off a bomb. And in a place where people lived, no less. He swore he would see every single member of the Organization arrested and brought to justice.
Rei Furuya's expression darkened. The Organization was brazen beyond belief, but it was always difficult to leave behind evidence.
This explosion had, without a doubt, completely destroyed all traces at the scene.
"You guys head toward the villa. I'll go after them," Shuichi Akai said over the phone. Since they had already been discovered, there was no point in hiding.
The enemy had left less than five minutes ago — the trail would be fresh, and it would be easy to catch up.
Just then, a drone flew near Shuichi Akai. He immediately aimed and fired at it, but upon seeing the drone's design, he quickly dove to the side.
Boom—
An explosion came through the phone.
"Hey, what happened?" Conan shouted into it.
For a moment, there was only silence.
"I'm fine. Head to the villa. Chasing Hennessy is impossible now," Shuichi Akai said, his face grim as he looked at another drone hovering in the distance.
The message was clear — if he continued the pursuit, the next target wouldn't be in the air, but a residential building.
From the power of the self-destructing drone just now, plus the explosives it carried, the blast was enough to level an entire building.
Even as an FBI agent, he couldn't ignore the lives of the people here.
"Why?" one of the Public Security officers asked, puzzled.
"If I keep going, they'll start indiscriminate bombing. If that's what you want, I can keep chasing," Shuichi Akai replied casually.
"Let's move to the other side," Rei Furuya said grimly. "We'll have the police secure this area."
Letting the enemy bomb the city freely would cause huge losses, even if they caught them.
Better to try the other side — there was still a chance to catch Gin.
Besides, the explosion had already drawn a crowd of onlookers here.
Sensing they were leaving, Ren let out a sigh of relief. He had no desire to fight — when had a researcher ever been used as a combatant? He swore he wouldn't take such risks again.
He immediately called Shiho Miyano.
"Ren, where are you?" she asked, her tense voice easing slightly upon hearing from him.
"You guys go to the target location. I'll go check the villa."
"No. You come here right now!" Miyano Shiho's voice cracked slightly, as if she would break up with him on the spot if Ren refused.
It was the first time Ren had heard her speak like this. He sighed. "Alright, I'm coming right away."
He decided not to watch any longer. That gunfight was meaningless. It was better to spend more time with his family, to keep Shiho and Akemi from worrying. They were all he had left.
After reuniting with the two sisters, Miyano Shiho wore a cold expression. Miyano Akemi spoke softly. "Ren, Shiho was really worried about you."
Ren walked over. "Sorry for making you worry. It won't happen again."
"Hmph." Miyano Shiho turned her head away, refusing to look at him. "Don't ever do that again. I don't want to lose you."
Hearing her straightforward words, Ren happily nodded in agreement.
Miyano Akemi looked at the two of them. She felt it might be a good thing to just let things develop naturally. Her younger sister had truly found someone she could rely on—and someone she liked in return.
