At seven in the morning, the police moved on schedule to escort Chianti.
It was an hour earlier than expected, a sudden change arranged by Rei Furuya.
He knew exactly what kind of person they were dealing with in the organization.
The target wanted to gather intelligence and rarely failed.
This was also part of the plan.
So early in the morning, Rei Furuya changed the schedule and departed ahead of time.
For this operation, he had issued a strict order: failure was not allowed.
Vodka was obedient enough, yet foolish enough.
Because of this, the interception arranged by Gin had been completely nullified by Rei Furuya's early preparations.
Even if they were notified now, it was too late to block all three routes.
"Boss, the intelligence is wrong."
"Adapt on the fly. Arrange the early car to block one route, have the perimeter team confirm it, and we'll take the other two routes," Gin said, blowing smoke.
Changes in intelligence were normal; what mattered was how they responded.
The biggest problem now was that the target's location had been jammed.
They couldn't know the exact position.
The enemy had invented something clever, but at least their route was now known.
The route for escorting the drone controller forced the driver to stop.
They contacted Rei Furuya: "Captain, a large number of cars are blocking the road here."
"Mm, there might also be pedestrians approaching. Don't open the doors. Keep moving toward the destination," Rei Furuya ordered directly.
The other two routes were clear, and Rei Furuya exhaled in relief.
Leaving an hour early had been the right decision.
Otherwise, facing this situation, there would have been no good solution.
He also gave orders to the snipers: if a Porsche 356A approached, they were to take the shot immediately, with the intent to kill.
"Car One, switch to Route B. Car Two, take Route D," Rei Furuya calmly issued the instructions.
As for Car Three, let it continue on its original route and ignore it.
Perimeter members were tailing the target, so Gin and the others quickly learned of the route change.
"Deploy the helicopter, aim for their tires. Also, adjust the cars waiting ahead," Gin began giving orders as well.
Both sides listened to the constantly updated intelligence and kept changing their instructions.
One wrong move from either side, and everything would be lost.
"Report, Captain. There's a helicopter, and it has a sniper." The driver spoke like Rei from the police force reporting.
"Keep moving. Also, prepare the sniper." Rei calmly instructed.
Ding—
"Glass that can stop sniper bullets. Neon Police aren't too bad." Calvados looked at the car, completely unharmed.
"The tires are useless too." Korn put away his sniper rifle. It was clear the police had prepared this time.
"Aim at the same spot on their glass. There's still no glass that can take multiple sniper shots on the same spot without damage." Calvados aimed again.
At that moment, a shot hit their helicopter, which was also bulletproof.
"They have snipers too, from three directions. Looks like Chianti is in that car." Calvados hurriedly reported back to the helicopter.
"Inform Gin." Korn agreed. With three police snipers on this car, they were clearly serious.
Hearing Calvados' report, Gin fell silent, then said, "Our next goal is to kill Chianti."
After all, it was one move behind. Gin had gathered all the organization members on this route.
On the rooftop, Vermouth watched the scene from her drone and couldn't help laughing. "Gin, looks like you lost again."
In reality, she had far more intel than just two routes, but how much she told Gin was her choice.
There was nothing more to worry about here. Next, she wanted to check on her angel.
Seeing the organization members around the two cars retreating in their direction, Rei laughed. This time, they had won. They could capture a member alive without any risk.
Previously, they had lost too many times against the organization. Now, they were finally turning the tables.
Gin's expression darkened. By the time they focused fire on one car, he knew he had walked into a trap. Now, only a helicopter could get there quickly.
But so far, Shuichi Akai hadn't shown himself. If the Silver Bullet was guarding that car, even a helicopter with two snipers would be ambushed.
At that moment, Gin's phone rang.
"Gin, you failed. I'll take over from here." A synthesized voice came through the phone.
"Rum." Gin didn't have time to reply before the line went dead. He scowled and led his men away, leaving the scene to Rum.
At the same time, a white-haired woman on a motorcycle slowly caught up to the car where Shuichi Akai was. She was a member of the organization, Curacao.
Shuichi Akai raised his sniper rifle. The wound on his left shoulder hadn't healed yet, and it affected his aim. He took careful aim at Curacao, ready to shoot.
Smoke began to rise around them. Soon, another motorcycle burst out of the haze.
Bang. A bullet struck the motorcycle's fuel tank.
"No one there?" Shuichi Akai was momentarily shocked. He heard a thud on the rooftop—Curacao had already reached it.
"Damn it." Shuichi realized the situation and quickly jumped from the car with Chianti.
Boom—
No matter how strong the car was, it couldn't survive a bomb. The explosion completely destroyed it.
Shuichi Akai and Chianti survived, and he turned to look at Curacao, someone he had never seen before.
Whoosh—
The woman's leg shot toward Shuichi's left shoulder, creating a gust of wind.
Shuichi dodged immediately and fired three shots at Chianti. At this point, he couldn't save her. But he wouldn't let the organization rescue her either.
Shuichi's close combat skills were formidable. After killing Chianti, he fought Curacao fiercely. Seeing that the target was dead, Curacao didn't linger. She quickly disappeared with a swift movement.
Shuichi couldn't aim at Curacao with his sniper rifle since he had jumped from the car and didn't bring it along. He lit a cigarette instead.
Curacao quickly sent an email.
[Target eliminated. No rescue possible. —Curacao]
[Retreat. —Rum]
The organization members vanished into the crowd, and the streets gradually returned to calm.
The underground parking lot.
"Isn't that Gin? Looks awful, even with tech support." Vermouth mocked directly.
The car window rolled down, and a gun barrel was aimed straight at Vermouth's head.
But Vermouth didn't flinch. "If the mission had included Hennessy, maybe you'll be the one… that guy can easily break through the opponent's network defenses."
Bang.
The bullet whizzed past Vermouth's ear, making her ears ring.
"Underestimating Bourbon, huh." Gin still didn't know Rei Furuya's real name, so he used his old codename.
"Well, Rum solved it, didn't he? The result was still a success, right?" Vermouth's tone turned cold; that shot just now had made her angry.
"Alright, Vodka, let's go." Gin rolled up the window, and the Porsche 356A slowly drove away.
Vermouth's smile faded as she watched Gin's car, whispering softly, "Is this a warning? He noticed."
Yes, Gin had indeed noticed that the intel Vermouth provided was incomplete, but he didn't know how much she was hiding, nor if she really even had that intel.
