Kon sat at a worn table in a small restaurant in Syrup Village. Goku nibbled a bread roll. Luffy shoveled food into his mouth across from him, Zoro sipped water, and Nami counted her coins, muttering about their empty treasure chests.
Usopp who they'd just met, sat with them, still shaken from Goku's warning shot but trying to act cool. The restaurant smelled of fresh bread and soup, and Kon's stomach growled. 'Hope they've got sweets,' he thought, eyeing the menu.
Luffy leaned forward, pointing at Usopp. "Are you Yasopp's son?!"
'He looks just like him,' he thought, grinning wide as he remembered the long nose sniper in Shank's crew.
Usopp's eyes widened, his slingshot clattering to the table. "Huh, you know my dad?"
"Yeah, he's in Shanks' crew!" Luffy said, his voice booming. "I met him! He's their sniper, super cool."
Usopp leaned back, trying to sound casual. "How's he doing?"
'Dad's out there being a big-shot pirate?' he thought, his chest swelling with pride but his face staying neutral.
Luffy grinned. "He's awesome. Got a big nose, just like you, maybe bigger!"
'Yasopp could hit a fly from a mile away,' he thought, remembering the sharpshooter's stories.
Usopp's lips twitched, fighting a smile. 'Dad's nose is bigger? No way. People say that my nose is bigger and long because I lie too much. Does that mean Dad also lies a lot?' he thought, but the thought of his father warmed him.
He cleared his throat, changing the subject. "So, what're you doing on this island?"
Luffy swallowed a chunk of bread. "We're looking for a ship. A big one, worthy of the Pirate King."
Kon piped up, his voice dreamy. "A ship with a place where someone can make me sweets and I can eat them peacefully. Oh, and a circus room for Buggy!"
Kon giggled at the image of Buggy juggling his limbs while Kon munched on rice balls.
Zoro snorted, rolling his eyes. 'A circus room? This kid's ridiculous,' he thought. Nami groaned, muttering, "He's still on about that clown?"
Usopp raised an eyebrow. "Do you have the money for a ship?"
Luffy shook his head, grinning sheepishly. Nami sighed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "We would've, if someone didn't generously give it all away."
Usopp scratched his nose, thinking. 'They know Dad, and they seem like good guys,' he thought, weighing his options. 'Maybe I can help.'
"There's a large mansion on the hill. The lady there, Kaya, might give you financial help."
Luffy's grin widened. "Let's go!"
The crew finished their meal, paid with Nami's last coins, and followed Usopp toward the mansion.
As they walked, Usopp explained, "The lady of the mansion, Kaya, is protected by her butler, Klahadore, since her parents died."
His voice turned bitter. "Klahadore bars me from entering. He thinks I'm a delinquent. We'll have to sneak in to talk to Kaya. Don't get seen, and be quiet."
Kon grinned, bouncing on his toes. "Sneaking? No problem! I'm great at sneaking. Used to sneak away from Mom and Dad all the time. They always found me, though. Goku's even better—he'd steal bananas from Dad's stash without a sound!"
'We're like ninja masters,' he thought, laughing. Goku chirped, mimicking a sneaky crouch, making Kon giggle harder.
Zoro rolled his eyes. 'This kid's gonna get us caught,'
Nami sighed, muttering, "Great, a loudmouth and a monkey."
They reached the mansion, a big house on a hill. Usopp led them to a side window, and they climbed through one by one, Kon using a small gust of air to lift himself silently.
'Easy as pie,' he thought, grinning. Inside, the air smelled of polished wood and something delicious, like fresh sandwiches. Kon's nose twitched. "Wow, that smells so nice!" he shouted, forgetting himself.
Luffy nodded, shouting too. "Yup, that definitely smells good! We should have whatever that is!"
'Smells like meat,' he thought, his stomach growling.
Usopp spun around, shushing them frantically. "I thought you said you were good at this!" he hissed at Kon.
Before Kon could reply, a man in a suit with spectacles appeared, his face stern. "You delinquent again!" he snapped at Usopp.
"How many times have I told you not to come here and meet Lady Kaya? And you brought others to her mansion without permission?"
Luffy stepped forward, grinning. "We just wanna talk about having the owner finance our pirate ship. Or just a ship would do. Gotta be worthy of the Pirate King!"
Luffy was unfazed by the man's glare.
Klahadore's face twisted with rage. "You're not getting any ship from here! And you brought pirates? Pirates to lady Kaya's house?!"
He turned on Usopp, sneering. "Ah, yes, you're the son of your pirate father. Just as barbaric and lowly as him."
Usopp's eyes flashed, and he lunged with his fists towards Klahadore who dodged effortlessly, grabbing Usopp's arm and tackling him to the ground.
"Leave and never come back," he growled, standing over him.
Kon's fists clenched, his Chi stirring. 'This guy's a jerk. Why did he have to be rude about Usopp's dad. If he says something about my dad, he would pay.' he thought, ready to blast him with air.
Zoro's hand went to his swords, but Nami grabbed his arm, whispering, "Not worth it." 'We're not fighting in a mansion where we trespassed,' she thought, pulling them back.
The crew and Usopp retreated through the window, landing outside. Luffy pouted, kicking the grass. "Man, we didn't even get to eat whatever that was."
'That smelled so good,' he thought, his stomach growling louder.
Goku chirped, holding up a plate of sandwiches he'd swiped during the chaos.
Kon's eyes lit up, and he grabbed a piece, devouring it in one bite. Luffy and Goku followed, chomping down, grinning as they tasted the savory filling.
"Who is a good monkey?" Luffy said
"Yes yes, you are!" Both Kon and Luffy rubbed Goku on his back and neck giving him immense pleasure.
