Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Strawhat pirates

Kon sat cross-legged on the deck of the Going Merry as he scribbled on a piece of paper.

Luffy sat beside him, tongue sticking out, drawing with a pencil that kept snapping from his enthusiasm.

Papers littered the deck, covered in messy sketches of skulls, hats, and goofy faces.

Goku scampered around while holding up a poorly drawn Jolly Roger with a banana on it.

The ship sailed smoothly, its sheep figurehead bobbing, as Nami steered toward the Baratie.

Usopp was nearby, mixing paint, while Zoro napped against a crate, snoring loudly. 'This is gonna be the coolest Jolly Roger ever,' Kon thought, adding a squiggly hat to his skull drawing.

Luffy held up his paper, grinning. "Look at this one! It's got a big hat and a meat bone!"

Luffy waved the sketch, which looked like a lopsided skull with a hat twice its size.

Kon laughed, showing his own. "Mine's better! It's got a staff and a rice ball!"

'Sweets make everything looks good,' he thought, his drawing featuring a skull with a comically large arrow mark.

Goku chirped, holding up another sketch with four pistols, and Kon chuckled. "Goku wants guns on it!"

Zoro cracked an eye open, groaning. "What the hell are you two doing?"

Luffy grinned, holding up his latest sketch. "We're designing a Jolly Roger! Every crew needs one, and now we'll have the best Jolly Roger!"

'It's gonna scare everyone,' he thought, imagining enemies fleeing at the sight of their Jolly Roger.

Kon nodded, pointing to their straw hats. "Since me and Luffy both wear straw hats, and we're captain and vice-captain, the Jolly Roger's gotta have one too."

'It's perfect for us,' he thought, proud of the idea. He knew Luffy's hat was special, a gift from some Shanks dude, and his own hid his arrow mark which Old Man Iroh gave him, the person who inspired him to adventure the world.

Straw hats was their thing..

Luffy clapped, tossing his pencil. "Yeah! Straw hat skull it is!" He grabbed a new paper, drawing a skull with a straw hat, this time less lopsided.

Kon added glowing eyes in the skull, and they high-fived, settling on the design.

'This is the one,' Kon thought, picturing it on their sail.

Nami, at the helm, spotted an island on the horizon, its cliffs dotted with strange creatures.

'The Island of Rare Animals,' she thought, her eyes gleaming.

'It is rumored to have treasures hidden in caves. But no one had found anything,' Her fingers twitched, ready to steer toward it, but she glanced at Goku, who was watching her suspiciously, one hand on a pistol.

'That monkey'll shoot me if I touch a single coin. There is no point risking my life to get a treasure that might not even be there only to lose it to the monkey.' she thought, sweating.

'Not worth the risk.' She sighed frustrated, keeping the ship on course, passing the island by.

She thought of some other way to get rid of Arlong.

'Kon's got that Avatar power—burning Kuro to ashes like it was nothing,'she thought, shivering.

'Luffy's stretching arms from a Devil Fruit. Zoro's swordsmanship is unreal—three swords at once? Insane. Even that monkey's a crack shot as he can use four guns at the same time and fire with pinpoint accuracy.' She leaned on the wheel, her thoughts shifting.

'I was gonna rob these idiots blind, but with their skills, they might actually stand a chance against Arlong and his crew. No who am I kiddin...Arlong is a fishme, he is as strong as ten grown men.' Nami bit her lips as a tear dropped from her eyes which she quickly wiped off.

Zoro, now awake, eyed Kon's iron staff strapped to his back. "You know how to use that thing?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Only time I saw it was when you smacked that clown's head."

Kon grinned, patting the staff. "I'm better suited for bending, but Old Man Iroh made sure I'm pretty good with the staff too."

Zoro smirked, standing up. "This ship's big enough. Wanna spar?"

Kon's eyes lit up. "Let's do it!"

'Gonna show Zoro I'm not just a bender but a skilled staff user,' he thought, grabbing his staff and twirling it.

They moved to the center of the deck, the crew watching. Zoro drew all three swords, one in each hand and one in his mouth, his stance steady.

Kon spun his staff, 'Remember no bending, just use staff,' he thought, focusing.

Zoro lunged, his swords flashing. Kon blocked the first two blades with his staff, the metal clanging, but the third sword grazed his arm.

He dodged back, swinging his staff at Zoro's legs, but Zoro leaped, slashing again. Kon parried, spinning the staff to block, but Zoro's speed overwhelmed him, landing a blunt strike to Kon's shoulder.

Kon stumbled, swinging wildly, but Zoro deflected every hit, his three swords a blur. Kon tried a feint, jabbing at Zoro's chest, but Zoro sidestepped, knocking the staff aside and pinning Kon with a sword to his chest. "Got you," Zoro said, smirking.

'I'd have better chances at winning if I used bending, but I gotta train my staff skills too.'

"Good one, Zoro!" he said, giving a thumbs-up.

Zoro sheathed his swords, impressed.

'Kid's got skill with the staff,' he thought. 'Not as skilled as me, but he held his own longer than I expected.'

While they sparred, Usopp climbed the mast, paintbrush in hand, working on the sail. He carefully painted the straw hat skull Jolly Roger, adding the hat's weave and a mischievous grin to the skull and glowing eyes.

Luffy ran to the mast, looking up with a grin. "That's it! Our Jolly Roger!"

'It's perfect for the Straw Hat Pirates,' he thought, his heart swelling. He climbed onto the sheep figurehead, throwing his arms up. "From this day forward, we are the STRAW HAT PIRATES!"

Kon, Goku, Jango and Usopp shouted with him in joy.
