Chapter 18 - Enduring

Inside a run down room were five children who in the best case was only half starving to death. This room had nothing in it other than a couple of blankets so they wouldn't freeze to death and despite the fact that the door was left unsecured none of them dared to try to escape in fear of man who had brought them here.

"You guys should try to escape next time he takes me." Spoke a 12 year old girl with brown hair and eyes who had been here the longest and was current laying on the ground.

"Tara we can't just leave you." Spoke another child who was a 10 year old boy with black hair and gold eyes that had been here the 2nd least amount of time.

"Alrin I can't even get out of bed anymore but you still have a chance." Tara said.

"What chance he's a fiend how could we escape?" Questioned a third child who had white hair and red eyes that had just arrived."

"No Wade you escape when he takes one of us he puts us in some marks in the ground and while he is doing that he is completely focused that's the best chance to escape." Tara explained.

"Do we really have a chance?" Spoke a fourth child that was a 10 year old girl with blue hair and eyes.

"Even if we ran hes an immortal we have no hope of escape." Spoke the fifth child who was 13 with green hair and eyes. After the green haired boy said that the room fell into a dreadful silence as the little bit of hope they may have had vanished.

While everyone was silent the young Alrin was having a conversation inside his mind.

"If you're gonna die anyways why not give it a try. It at least gives you a chance to live even if the chance is basically 0." The voice inside his mind spoke.

For the last six months Alrin had ignored this voice out of hate because if not for it he would not even be here things would have been better for him.

"Come on all you have to do is endure a bit of pain and if you succeed you will have a good chance at killing him a simple fool striving for an understanding of souls that is far beyond him." The voice continued trying to persuade Alrin.

Alrin looked at Tara who's health he had watched quickly deteriorate away over the last few months. She had continuously volunteered to take on the brunt of the experiments to protect the rest of them but now she could barely even move if he did not do anything she would surely die.

"I'll do it." Alrin firmly said to the voice.

"You will? Great! I've gotten so bored of getting passed around and lost over so many Sen cycles so I hope you succeed." The voice began to rant.

"Just tell me what I need to do." Alrin said.

"Fine but you need to understand what this entails." The voice said getting serious.

"Isn't it just death?" Alrin questioned.

"No this cultivation method is one of a kind and only exists due to very special circumstances. Anyways this cultivation method is the ultimate body cultivation because because it fuses the soul into the body not just Sencia. This means that you will have to endure the pain of your soul being broken down and that if you fail to endure it you will not only instantly die but experience a true death unable to enter the cycle of reincarnation." The voice solemnly explained.

"I'll still do it if I can't get my revenge in this life then I don't need another." Alrin said with a strong determination.

Alrin moved to the corner of the room after telling the other children not to bother while he was over there. Once he sat down in the lotus position he closed his eyes and with the help of the voice guided his mind to his soul.

His soul that should have been a pure white sphere was no longer pure showing tinges of darkness from the experiments he suffered through.

"It is a good thing you did not wait any longer if you had your soul would not have been in a good enough condition to even try." The voice spoke up taking the appearance of a man with long blonde hair, dark green eyes and wearing yellow robes.

Hearing that Alrin only quietly stared at the man not saying anything.

"No need to be so on guard I am only here to help you start the process after that it all depends on your will." The man spoke.

"Fine let's begin." He said taking a seat in front of his own soul.

"Allow me to give you some words of wisdom since your still young. First their is no giving up once the process starts you either complete it or you return to nothing. Second your soul will not want to fuse with your body until the process is complete you must properly exert your will over your own soul to keep the two together. Third I can't help you so do your best to succeed." The voice knew failure was more than guaranteed especially for someone so young but hope was still in his heart after so many years of being trapped. "Are you prepared?"

"Yes."

The man moved over to Alrin's soul and lightly placed his hand on it. As soon as it made contact Alrin's soul immediately began breaking down into particles.

The moment it started Alrin almost instantly passed out and died from the pain. The pain of having your soul broken down was unimaginable. To best describe the pain it would be as if your body was being peeled apart not just your skin everything including your bones, heart, brain, every last inch of your body was being peeled as thinly as possible to inflict as much excruciating pain as possible. Yet it got worse from there because in this case you are still mentally connected to every last peeled part of your body continuing to still feel the pain because your still alive. Then after being peeled you felt someone jabbing the peeled pieces into a solid wall forcing them to fuse together even though their was no space for them because it was never meant for that.

This is the kind of torture Alrin was currently putting himself through and the worst part was that it was excruciatingly slow. It was impossible for it to be any faster or the soul would destabilize and effectively self destruct before it could be fused into the body. Only when the split was 50/50 could the speed increase.

Alrin enduring even the first few seconds would already be considered a miracle but he was continuing to hold on. He had been born with no talent in cultivation as he had 0 affinity towards the elements but it seems the boon from that was a naturally strong will. It was unfortunate what lead him to this moment was the fact he had no talent but if he had even the smallest amount of talent with such a naturally strong will he would have gotten far into his cultivation but instead it lead him here.

The man only watched Alrin struggle although he had hope in his heart he knew it was impossible for such a young child to endure this pain. He had so little faith that after seeing Alrin hit 10% completion left him surprised even if he could already see signs of him faltering.

Like this time slowly passed when back in the real world the fiend that had captured them walked back into the room. His eyes swept the room deciding who to use for his next experiment when his eyes landed on Alrin who was unconscious focusing on his soul. He saw blood coming out of both his eyes and thought he would die soon so he decided to make use of him before he did so he went and grabbed his body.

"Stop take me." Tara tried to shout and stop him but she no longer even had the strength for that and could only watch as Alrin was taken.

At the moment Alrin's body was grabbed the breakdown of his soul had reached 40% but Alrin was currently struggle to continue as his willpower was about to run dry.
