Chapter 1 - Ordinary

Nix woke up at around 7 am in the morning by the sound of her alarm, brushed her teeth, and ate by herself — as usual. She was an only child; her parents had already left, leaving her with food to eat.

My name's Nix, a sixteen-year-old girl, and I'm in junior year. My classes don't start until 9 am but I was up and awake. If I had to be real with myself, I didn't really wanna go to school today — well, like every other day.

School's alright, but it is draining for me, not to mention I had no friends, at least friends who would actually pick me if my so-called friends were in a situation to choose only one of their friends — no doubt they wouldn't choose me.

I'm doing some of my homework that I procrastinated doing. I'm so sick of my teachers sending us homework knowing damn well some students are just gonna copy from a website that already has every answer to their questions. Where's the learning to that?

Nix stood up, stretching her arms as she finally finished the homework, wandering around the house, glancing at the clock — 7:56 am.

She groaned at the thought of having to take a shower, but she was gonna be late if she didn't do her routine now.

She sighed heavily, "Dang it..."

It was raining early in the morning, and Cale yawned as he waited for the bus to pick him up. He glanced around, seeing Nix on the other side of the yard.

He waved as they caught each other's gaze, awkwardly smiling at her. Nix returned the awkward smile, looking away.

Nix used to be my childhood friend, our parents knew each other and planned play dates, and I remember I used to like her at some point in our friendship, but we eventually faded apart but I felt, no, know they were still some lingering feelings — must be the reason why I was now awkward around her.

Cale suddenly felt nervous knowing she was just a few distances away; thankfully, the bus arrived. As much as he dreaded going to school, he didn't wanna be stuck in an awkward moment with Nix.

He sat around the corner of the bus, on the window seat, glancing down at Nix as she waved him goodbye,

Cale returned the wave with an awkward smile.

Nix goes to a different school than him. While Cale was stuck in a public school she was at a prestigious all-girls school. She was smart, sweet, nice, pretty, and too good for him.

Cale walked into the hallway to his first period, hoping to have a peaceful day at school.

"Hey! Cale!"

Cale turned around, seeing his friend coming up to him, doing their greeting handshake, and his friend yapped about a game.

"Yo, did you see the new update..." He trailed off as Cale smiled, going to their class together wondering how this day is gonna go.

Nix grabbed her textbook and pens, getting ready for class. She sighed as she heard her classmates chattering about the assignment and who had the right answer.

"Hey, Nix! Looking gloomy, did you have a fight with your boyfriend?" Her friend teased, hoping to lighten her up.

She chuckled nervously, her expression a mix of awkwardness and shyness. "No, the weather is gloomy so I'm gloomy."

Boyfriend? Hah, I wish.

Her friend laughed, not quite convinced "Sure, sure..."

"Did you see the news yesterday?"

Nix's eyebrows raised, curious. Did something happen? "No, what happened?"

"Yup, apparently a meteor fell out of the sky, but it's not actually a meteor. It's all speculation, but I saw a video of it and it was so beautiful and bright, I wish I could've seen it!" She talked, while Nix was intrigued, noting to herself to look it up once she goes home.

"Really? Are there any updates about it yet?" She replied, wanting more information.

"Nope, maybe soon...not sure."

As Nix was about to reply, the teacher suddenly arrived — standing up to greet the teacher, her friend went back to her seat, mumbling a goodbye.

She sat down after they all greeted the teacher, her mind still on the meteor.

I wanna go home...

Cale yawned as her teacher discussed in front of the class. He wasn't listening so what? Science is so boring and the way his teacher is teaching is not helping.

He dribbles on his notebook, praying to God he'll be awake by the end of this class.

This one looks like a cow.

After a while, he glanced at the clock, wondering when this torture was gonna end — 11:28 am.

32 minutes left...

Cale groaned quietly, starting to feel annoyed.

The teacher clapped her hands to get the class's attention and might as well have woken them up.

"Now, if anyone was watching the news yesterday, something interesting happened. Anyone knows? Mind telling the class what it was?" She asked, looking around the classroom. Some students look clueless, and some do not even care.

She sighed, "No one? Alright then, I'll tell you all about it. Yesterday, a meteor dropped out of the sky; thankfully, no one was hurt. An interesting part about this is that some meteorologists suspect that it is not a meteor but instead a completely alien rock."

The teacher continued excitedly, "Isn't that amazing, amazing discovery is gonna pop out soon!"

Cale hummed, interested. Now seemingly listening to his teacher.

He wasn't all into space and rocks but it was interesting his mind already predicting different scenarios

What if it has a virus? Maybe it's magical, then it'll give us different magical powers like those manga I've read or maybe it could end humanity whole.

An apocalypse, a miracle, or destruction.

He shrugged, whatever it was — it caught his attention and he was determined to know all about it.

He sighed, drowning out his teacher's voice.

I wanna go home...
