After I fixed my ribs, I walked over to the others, but just then, a bright light from three police helicopters shone down on us. This time we didn't wait, Batman immediately shouted, "We're leaving!" He kicked open a hatch and went down into the sewers. The three of us followed him like good little boys.
"This is the second time today we've been in the sewers. Don't you have a better escape plan?" I asked Batman, then pointed at Lantern. "This idiot-"
"Hey, I'm not an idiot!" Lantern yelled.
I ignored him and kept going, "could have made a jet, and we could've flown out of here instead of running around like idiots in this stinking hole."
Batman spoke up, "This is faster. And right now, we have more important things to deal with than your comfort, like stopping Darkseid, who's probably trying to conquer our planet."
Well… I had to admit he was right.
Still didn't mean I wanted to stink like this.
Eventually, we emerged from the sewers and went into an empty factory. Superman asked, "Why are you three here? Metropolis is my turf."
Batman replied, "There have been reports of mysterious abductions all over the country."
Superman responded, "That's happening here too. Big cities get that kind of thing all the time. You think these disappearances are connected to this?"
"Of course they are," Batman said.
Lantern then asked, "So those freaks are… what exactly?"
This time, I answered him, "Those freaks are called Parademons. They were living beings once, but Darkseid wiped their minds, and now they worship him like he's their god."
Batman immediately added, "They're his soldiers. Expendable soldiers. This is, in all likelihood, the start of a worldwide invasion."
But I corrected him, "No. This IS a worldwide invasion."
Meanwhile, Superman just stood there, completely confused, because he had no idea who or what Darkseid was.
Then Lantern scoffed, "You guys are so paranoid. Let's just open it and see what happens." He formed a giant hammer and was about to smash the portal bomb, but Batman grabbed his arm and said, "Without knowing what's inside? That's reckless."
Lantern yanked his arm free. "I'll show you reckless."
At that moment, I realized I hadn't told them what these bombs really were, so I quickly started talking, "Guys, that bomb is some kind of portal device. The moment it activates, an army of Paradem-"
I stopped mid-sentence, staring at the bomb as it started glowing and powering up.
I sighed.
We all moved back from the bomb as it transformed into a portal, and the first Parademons started pouring out of it. I ignited my lightsaber and began the massacre.
I slashed at everything that moved, but there were just too many of them, and more kept coming. Eventually, even Lantern was overwhelmed, but Batman helped him up, and Lantern responded by creating a giant mech and firing rockets at the Parademons.
Batman jumped onto Lantern's mech and shouted, "Still think we're paranoid?"
"Well… maybe a little less now," Lantern replied.
My arm started to ache from how many times I'd swung my lightsaber back and forth, it felt endless. Eventually, even I was overtaken by their sheer numbers.
I used the Force to blast all the bastards away from me. "You're like annoying cockroaches!" Maybe I could destroy the portal they were coming through. Does it have a frame? A stabilizer? Whatever, if I destroy it, the portal collapses. So I yelled to Superman, even though I didn't want to, and it felt painfully awkward, "Cover me! I'm gonna shut down the portals!"
Superman nodded and started tearing apart every Parademon that got near me.
Meanwhile, I focused on crushing all the portals inside the factory. I raised both hands in front of me and began collapsing them one by one. Slowly but surely, I crushed them,"Crack, crack", until finally, I destroyed them all.
Lantern turned to me and shouted, "Nice work, bro!"
But it wasn't over yet. There were still plenty of Parademons left in the factory, a lot of them. And then, suddenly, a familiar system screen appeared right in front of me:
New Side Quest
Side Quest:
Kill 500 Parademons in 3 minutes.
Reward: 2% Progression, a lot of Beskar Steel.
Penalty: Lose one of your Force abilities at random.
Yes/No
I clicked Yes instantly. After all, the rewards outweighed the risks. If you don't gamble, you're not really living.
