Lantern finally snapped out of it, stopped mumbling about the bro code and betrayal, and looked up at the sky. The Parademons had started flying away instead of attacking us. Everyone found it strange except Lantern, who said, "Yeah, that's right, run away." Batman immediately replied, "No. They're regrouping. Waiting for the one who'll lead the real assault."
Superman turned to Batman. "You mean that Darkseid guy?"
Batman nodded, and Superman continued, "Alright… and then what?"
Batman didn't even turn to him and said, "I don't know."
But then, out of nowhere, I heard something crash into a building. I turned and saw a mechanical figure that clearly hadn't quite mastered its ability to fly. The large robotic figure landed on the ground. Wonder Woman was already drawing her sword and said, "He's mine." But as she closed in on the mechanical figure, a blue beam shot from its mechanical arm, aimed directly at the approaching Amazon.
I decided to intervene. Using Flashstep, I appeared in front of the blue beam, right before it could hit Wonder Woman. I activated my lightsaber and held it in front of me.
The blue beam slammed into my lightsaber, and from the clash, a storm of blue and white sparks burst everywhere. I held my ground until the beam from the mechanical figure finally died down. Flash appeared in front of me in an instant.
"Wait, Aaron, that's-"
I didn't let him finish. "Yeah, I know. Don't worry."
Flash relaxed and smiled. Flash might not have been worried about me, but Superman sure was,his eyes were already glowing red as he prepared to unleash his heat vision. He only stopped when he felt Flash's hand press frantically against his chest.
"Hold it! I vouch for him, he was at S.T.A.R. Labs!" Flash insisted.
Superman finally calmed down.
Until another figure landed on the ground from the sky. This one wore a hood, yellow lightning constantly flickering and fading around their body. The figure walked among us, pulled back the hood, and spoke.
"Hey. What's up?"
Then he pointed at himself. "Shazam."
And then he pointed at the mechanical figure behind him, A.K.A. Cyborg. "I'm here with him."
Cyborg immediately spoke up. "I'm not here with him."
Lantern looked at Cyborg with clear disdain and said, "And who exactly are you supposed to be, Mr. Robot?"
Cyborg didn't take it personally and answered, "Doesn't matter who I am. What matters is what I know."
Batman immediately asked, "And what's that?"
Cyborg replied without hesitation, "I'm linked into their system. I know their plan. They're terraforming the Earth… and it's gonna get bad."
Batman agreed. "It will."
Lantern turned to Batman and asked, "Why do you think so?"
Batman looked back at him and said, "Well, maybe because the sea is starting to boil."
And Batman wasn't joking. We all turned to look at the sea, completely confused. Out on the water, there was a massive circle of fire, and around that circle, countless Parademons were flying, well and that was just annoying as hell. And then something happened that I absolutely did not expect.
The flames started rising higher and higher, only to drop back down to their previous height a moment later. But the water trapped within that ring of fire began to rise,
towering to absurd heights, like… what, thirty meters? I don't know, but it was massive.
(Yk what else is massive? MY LOWWWW TAPERRRR FADEEEE)
Then, from within the water, some kind of disk emerged. Probably a Parademon base, or at least that was my guess.
I didn't have much time to think about it though, because suddenly, enormous towers began to emerge from every direction. We were all seriously baffled.
Then, from each tower, beams of energy shot up into the sky. I had no idea what they were for. Was this supposed to create some kind of portal for Darkseid's avatar? I didn't know. I couldn't really remember exactly what happened in detail anymore, it had been a while since I'd watched all the DC animated movies, and besides, this was my reality now. Things didn't have to play out the way I thought they would. I told myself that silently.
Meanwhile, the Parademons had started abducting people, hauling them away somewhere. They captured countless civilians. Superman watched as the Parademons carried them off and asked, "What are they planning to do with them?"
Batman replied, "I'm not sure. But I know one thing, they're not killing them. They're collecting them."
He paused for a moment, and Flash immediately spoke up, "And this isn't just happening here, it's happening all over the world."
Batman spoke again, "Well, based on what Revan told us, they're taking them to brainwash them… to turn them into those monsters we call Parademons."
Cyborg turned his attention fully to me then, really looking at me for the first time. He finally acknowledged what I'd said and spoke up. "Revan's right. They're converting them into Parademons."
And then our attention snapped back to that thing I'd thought was a Parademon base.
Well… it wasn't a base. Or maybe it was? I sighed, watching as another tower appeared right in the center of the Parademon-infested zone. This one was smaller, but just like the others, it fired a beam into the sky. And the moment that beam shot upward, swarms of Parademons began pouring out of it. That's when I realized, this was the portal.
And Cyborg confirmed my thoughts with what he said next:
"It's too late… he's here."
From the portal emerged a massive figure, around 8–10 feet tall, with gray-blue skin, glowing red eyes that burned with power, dark armor, and a belt with the Omega symbol on it.
Then the figure began to float toward us, slow and nonchalant, like he had all the time in the world.
The frickin' Darkseid is coming…
I swallowed hard, my eyes locked on Darkseid's. Seeing him on a screen was one thing, seeing him here, in reality, was something else entirely. This was real, and I could die at any moment.
I don't know why, but as I thought about death, I found myself grinning beneath my mask. Quietly, just for myself, I muttered, "This is going to be fun."
Maybe I really had become a battle maniac…
But one thing I was sure of, I wasn't about to let someone like Darkseid kill me. I had a goal, and I was going to see it through, no matter the cost.
