The tunnel was dark, but we were fortunate, for now.
For the first few hours, we hadn't encountered anything out of the ordinary. A few dead bodies here and there. Cannibals gnawing on corpses we chose to ignore. Most of the vampires we came across seemed to flee the moment they saw Ravić, especially now that we were closer to the border.
One pathway after another, I trailed behind him, gripping his hand. I couldn't risk getting lost down here. The longer we stayed underground, the more claustrophobic it felt. Hours of darkness, tunnels after tunnels, with no sense of time.
"We're almost there," Ravić muttered as we turned into a smaller tunnel.
The air shifted.
It felt different, like it's less...alive.
"Prince Ravić," someone gasped.
Ravić stopped in his tracks, causing me to bump into his back. His arm shot out, instinctively, wrapping my middle against his back, shielding me behind his body.
