Angel woke up with a spring in her step, her heart filled with joy and expectation. It was Saturday, and she knew she and her dad, Mr. Gabriel James, would spend the day together, just like always. As she entered the sitting room, the savory aroma of breakfast wafting from the kitchen made her smile.
"Good morning, Dad!" she called out, her voice carrying into the kitchen.
"Good morning, sweetheart!" her dad replied.
Angel settled onto the sofa, grabbing the remote control, and landed on her favorite song. Just as she was getting into the music, her dad walked into the room.
"Hey, baby!" he said, giving her a warm smile. Angel stood up, gave him a side hug, and they both sat down.
"You look happy today, Dad. What's up?" Angel asked, turning from the TV to study her dad's face.
"Why do you say that? I look like this all the time," he replied, making a funny face.
Angel giggled. "Haha, Dad, don't think I don't know you... Something's up."
Her dad chuckled and looked back at the TV. "Come on, Angel, don't start with the detective thing again."
Angel's eyes sparkled. "Aha!" she exclaimed. "You only call me 'Angel' to when you're hiding something."
Her dad looked away, and Angel pressed on. "Come on, Dad, I'm in high school now, and I'm 15 years old. Don't hide things from me."
Just then, Angel's attention was diverted to the kitchen. "Wait, Dad, did you leave the stove on? What's burning?"
Mr. Gabriel jumped up, laughing. "Come on, I reduced the heat!" He rushed into the kitchen and brought out the burnt breakfast. "Baby, are you interested in overly toasted bread and burnt eggs?"
Angel walked into the kitchen, smiling at her dad. "Dad, aren't you tired of cooking? Just get me a mom, and I won't have to eat your special burnt food for breakfast."
Her dad looked at her sadly. "Come on baby, it's not always burnt..."
"That's not the point, dad. You're already 37, you need a partner, and besides, I want a mom for" Angel replied.
Angel's dad hesitated "come on baby, I'm totally okay" and mumbling he said "besides I don't think Christina and I is that serious yet"
Angel's curiosity was piqued. "What did you just say? Who's Christina? I've heard that name before. Was it the woman you went on a date with last week? Are you in love? Will you..."
Her dad interrupted her, laughing. "Baby, stop with all the questions!" He sighed. "I'm seeing someone, and her name is Christina, but we aren't that serious yet."
Angel's eyes widened. "Wow! Why didn't you tell me about it?"
Her dad smiled. "I said we aren't very serious yet, that's why."
Angel's questions didn't stop until her dad got tired and started telling her more about Christina. Eventually, he said, "Come on, baby, let's get ready before it's late, and we end up not going to the park today."
Angel finally stopped asking questions, distracted by the prospect of their outing. She got ready, and they headed out for a fun-filled Saturday.
