Chapter 1 - Unfortunate Beginning

I find it very funny how you can be living the perfect life and out of nowhere, life starts throwing curveball after curveball. It is utter thrash. Well before I get into those messy details, let's have a short history lesson. This story takes place in a beautiful kingdom called Zhelia. After war struck, the kingdom was divided into seven territories. Ishtar, Aquafin, Sparcus, Ruend, Stomas, Archen and Darchaos which were protected by the supreme dragons Egneel, Aquos, Voltzy, Gaia, Sora, Lustro and Lokia respectively. After countless centuries of nonstop fighting the seven territories decided to negotiate so that the unnecessary war could finally meet its conclusion.

The meetings between each territory leader started off a bit shaky but after some months of constructive criticism, Zhelia's war finally ended in the year four hundred and ninety-eight. Unfortunately, not everyone was psyched about the era of peace. A mischievous young lady who had been training ever since she found about her magical capabilities, decided to stir up some drama. First she traveled across the territories, recruiting strong comerades to carry out her bidding. Once she was satisfied with the amount of people she had, she began training them how to improve their skills with a particular goal in mind.

That goal was to slay each of the supreme dragons and steal their life force. If she achieved her goal not only would Zhelia be in utter chaos, but she would be unstoppable. Luckily, there was an espionage among her ranks that notified each of the current leaders. They spoke to their respective dragons. Each dragon gifted their leader with a portion of their magical power to aid the in the upcoming battle. Despite this measure, Rion succeeded. Not only did she slay each dragon, take their life force but she also overthrew each leader.

The leaders gathered and discussed possible plans to defeat Rion. After a while they stumbled across a specific spell. It was only usable by the supreme dragons and it needed magic from each of the dragons to even be able to cast. It was a powerful sealing magic spell that could detain any threat. With their new found hope they stormed Rion's fortress and a very intense battle began. Their plan was to wear out Rion until she barely had any strength left and then seal her. It was a difficult ordeal but they persisted until she was finally exhausted.

It was the perfect moment to execute their plan. At that moment, the spy arrived and restricted Rion's movements. The leaders casted the spell in unison causing the tyrant to be sealed away. On that marvelous day, a festival was held where the once divided territories got together and partied and spend the entire day celebrating. That day became an important day that was deemed to be called Zhelia's Emancipation Day. Several years passed and magic became and everyday utility. It was used in schools and everyday jobs. A new job was even made especially for magic users.

After the year seven hundred, a young man who used to be a royal knight in Ishtar, proposed a system to not only protect the territories but to also train new magic users that was called the adventurer system. After a lot of young and old adventurers honed their skills, an annual competition between solo adventurers and guilds will occur. Coincidentally, it would land on the same day as Zhelia's Emancipation Day. Zhelia was just an amazing place to be.

Soon it was the year nine hundred and fifteen. It was my tenth birthday. Five more years and then I can take the test to become an adventurer. When I was younger, I found out that I could use flame magic. After heading to the academy, I tried my hardest to refine my skills as much as possible. I ended up learning how to use a fireball spell which I was so proud of. Also, I exercised frequently to stay fit and took combat courses at the academy. This was because we were told most mages that rely on their magic alone would be in peril if they were forced into close combat.

I trained relentlessly to not only become stronger but to be someone that could protect my family. My parents couldn't use magic so their lives were ridiculed but that didn't bring down their mood. My little sister could use wind based magic and honestly, she was way better at learning spells than me. Sometimes I would go to her for advice about mana control and many other fundamentals that I couldn't get the hang of. By the time I got to the age of twelve, I had learnt another spell thanks to my little sister.

This spell made use of precise mana control and allowed me to make certain objects out of fire. I started off with easy stuff like small objects but I gradually moved on to other things like daggers and shields. Life was great for me. Until my fourteenth birthday.

After coming home from school with my little sister, I realized that the house was silent, too silent. We both braced ourselves while cautiously entering the house. We yelled out for our parents, but there was no answer. We decided to split up to search the entire house. I had a tight feeling in my chest. I could tell something was wrong. We looked all over but still couldn't find our parents.

We then decided to head outside. "Klaus, where are mommy and daddy?" She said while trying to hold in tears. "I have no idea." I replied to Nicole. My mind was drawing blanks. That is when I heard loud vultures circling the air above the forest next to our house. "Nicole, I want you to head inside and lock the doors!" I demanded. She reluctantly did as I said. I rushed into the forest and followed the birds in the air. The closer I got to the location, the tighter my chest felt. After around a half hour of running I made it. The big vultures had landed from the air and then surrounded a certain spot on the forest ground. I walked slowly towards the birds but I ended up tripping on a rock. When I struggled to get up I realized both my arms were covered in blood but it wasn't mine.
