Chapter 4 - HIS TOUCH WAS NO LONGER COMFORTING

Meera didn't know how long she had been asleep for, but her stomach was aching so badly because she was hungry. She didn't remember the last time she had a full meal.

The only thing that she ate was crackers during their day long trip from the Riverside pack to the Crescent moon pack. After that, she didn't have any appetite to eat anything.

Groggily, Meera opened her eyes and then looked at her surroundings, this was her bedroom based on what Collin had said in the morning and now, it was already evening, it seemed Meera had slept away the entire day and skipped her meals yet again.

No wonder, her stomach felt so bad right now.

Next to her bed, there was a tray with two loaves of bread and a glass of milk, which were now cold. Not only her stomach, but also her head was throbbing painfully.

She looked around her bedroom, but there was not much that she could see. Just like the living room, this room was so vacant, and only consisted of a bed, a table and a chair. Besides these few, there was nothing, but a curtain that covered a huge window behind it.

Meera pushed herself to sit down and then got off the bed, her head was spinning when she stood and took a tentative step.

Indeed, starving yourself after crying so much until all your energy got drained was not a good routine.

She walked toward the bathroom and opened the faucet, to let the cold water run over her fingers, before she cupped her hands and splashed water on her face a few times.

It felt so refreshing and she was wide awake right now. But, when she lifted her head and looked at her own reflection in the mirror, she furrowed her brows.

The person that looked back at her was a complete mess. Her black, long and curly hair was tangled and there were dark circles under her eyes, while her green eyes looked so dead, if she had to put it into words.

She had never been like this before. Her reflection was so scary, she didn't want anyone to see her like this.

Quickly, Meera wiped her face and glanced at the mirror again. She was so pale and all exhausted, as if she had just attended several funerals of her loved ones in a row.

After that, Meera returned to her bedroom and then looked at the bread and the glass of milk that had turned cold already, but her stomach was in knots and she didn't want to wake anyone up. In other words, she didn't have much choice in this case.

Meera took a piece of bread and then popped it into her mouth, then munched on it slowly, but it tasted so bitter, she felt like she was going to throw up at this point.

She then grabbed the cold milk and tried to down it in one go, but just after one gulp, she stopped. She didn't like drinking cold milk…

The night was so silent, there was nothing she could hear, not even the sound of nocturnal creatures. Maybe it was because this place was so far from the hustle bustle of the cities and was at the foot of a mountain, so everything was still so natural?

Meera gave up the thought of stomaching that hard loaf of bread and cold milk, as she skimmed her room and only then the reality hit her so hard. She was all alone here, literally alone in this strange place, where she knew no one, except for the alpha and the beta, but she didn't feel like she could rely on both of them either.

She didn't cry, she couldn't cry again, it seemed her tears had long dried up.

"I want to go home…" she whimpered. In her eighteen years of life, this was the first time for Meera to be so far away from home, without any indication that she would be able to see her family, her friends or her pack again.

It was only on the second day that Dalton agreed to meet her and during that time as well, Meera couldn't eat anything. She could only drink water, because every time she tried to eat something, she felt like throwing up.

She was in so much pain, but it was nothing physical.

"Stop your tantrum." Those were the first words that Dalton said once they finished having breakfast together and also the first time the alpha wanted to see her after two days he avoided her like a plague.

"What?" Meera looked at him tiredly. She felt so exhausted and didn't have energy to throw a tantrum, as she couldn't sleep and eat well since she arrived here. But how could he say that she was being fussy? "What are you trying to say?"

Meera had been thinking about this, she thought, she saw it wrong, but when she watched his eyes a little bit longer, she was very sure that he was blind.

They sat together to have breakfast, but Dalton seemed to lose all of his patience, as he stood up and approached Meera.

He stretched out his hand and lifted her chin, so he could see her right in the eyes, though she was sure that he couldn't see anything.

"You have been starving yourself," Dalton stated. Meera didn't eat anything, she didn't even touch her cutleries.

"I can't eat," Meera said in a small voice. She wasn't intentionally trying to starve herself, she simply couldn't eat. Her headache became even worse this morning.

Meera tried to shake his hand from her, but she couldn't do it. His grip was too strong.

"Why? Because the food here is not up to your standard?" Dalton didn't snap at her, but hearing the way he talked was enough to make Meera grimace, especially his blind eyes, they were so mysterious. There were strong emotions
