Was he really blind? But, how could he move around easily without getting any help? Moreover, he fought. He literally fought without his sight. That fact alone puzzled her.
"Sleep again." Dalton covered Meera's eyes, which stared at him intently. He couldn't see it, but he definitely was able to tell that.
His blindness heightened all of his other senses.
And the moment, Dalton's rough and callous palm covered her eyes, Meera closed them and fell once again into a blissful sleep.
She hoped, she didn't have another nightmare again, with those dull blue eyes stared at her in so much pain.
=======================
When Meera opened her eyes again, she couldn't find Dalton, instead, it was Collin, the beta of this pack, who was sitting on the chair, the place where she remembered Dalton was sitting before.
"How are you feeling?" Collin put down the paper that he was reading and then leaned over to Meera, the moment he saw her opened her eyes. "Do you feel hurt anywhere?"
Meera shook her head. She was still exhausted, but this was better than a few days ago.
"How long I have been out?" Meera felt her dry throat would kill her when she tried to speak.
Fortunately, Collin was attentive enough, as he immediately poured a glass of water for her and arranged the pillow behind her back, so she could sit comfortably, while he helped her to drink.
"You have been out for ten days straight." Collin put away the empty glass and then sat down again. "Sit comfortably, I have asked someone to call the healer, so they can check on you."
However, Meera didn't listen to the last sentence, as she was reeled by the fact she had fallen asleep for that long.
She was aware that she must have slept for a few days, but she didn't realize it was that long, she thought approximately two to three days…
"Is your neck still in pain?" Collin asked her when she touched her neck, where Dalton had marked her forcefully. That was unacceptable act, but then she remembered what that cruel alpha had done to his family, she should be relief because he didn't kill her right away.
Like he did to his own mate…
"I have given him an earful," Collin added, as if by letting her know about that could make her feeling slightly at ease.
Could he do that? Would he be all right after scolding the alpha? He wouldn't get into trouble, would he?
However, Meera just offered him a faint smile, which the beta couldn't tell, whether she was still upset or still sad.
Meera didn't say anything until the healer came and gave a thorough check on her. She left not long after she gave all the medicine that she needed to drink to the head servants, who served Meera, with detail instruction.
After that, both of them went out of the room, leaving her with Collin again.
"He is… blind." The words came out as a statement, instead of a question and that was the first thing that she mentioned when she opened her eyes.
Meera didn't know if this was rude or not, but she really wanted to know, why the people around him seemed to not notice that, as it was very obvious. There was no talk about his eyes as well, or else, it would add to the stories of his cruelty.
Meera glanced at Collin for a brief moment nervously, to gauge his reaction when she said that. He didn't think she didn't realize this, right?
On the other hand, Collin opened his mouth, yet there were no words that came out, but then he smiled and sighed deeply, as he nodded. "Yes, you are right. He is blind," he confirmed Meera's suspicions.
"But… how?" She didn't know how to ask about this without sounding openly rude, but then she had already brought the matter up, so it would be better if she got an explanation too.
The alpha was blind, but how could he move around like his sight was normal?
"It's his human's form that is blind, not his beast." Because Meera would live here with them for a long time, Collin thought it was alright to let her learn about this, even though he was still thinking it should be the alpha, who was most suitable to give this explanation to her.
Unfortunately, he was not in his right mind now. Marking your mate forcefully had a backlash on him as well.
"His beast could see just fine," Collin stated.
In other words, Dalton was indeed blind, but his beast was not, and it would need a great amount of energy for him to be able to see, since he would need to use his beast's sight in his human form.
"You can do that?" Meera had never heard something like this, even her friend, who was blind, couldn't do it.
"I don't know, I just know that he is able to do that." Collin then looked at the door, as both of them heard Margie's footsteps coming closer. "Everyone in this pack knows about this, but outsiders don't know about this fact."
Meera was surprised that this kind of information had not come out yet.
"How was that even possible?" Meera became even more confused and then Collin smiled at her, but this time it was not a sarcastic smile, but a mischievous one.
"I know the rumors out there about him, but you should know that not every rumor is true," Collin said gently.
Meera knitted her brows. "Which one is not true?" That he was heartless? Someone who killed his own father and his own mate, while shunning away his only brother?
Yet, Meera didn't dare to voice her last question, because no matter what, her life was still in their hands. She didn't want to provoke him, because Collin seemed to be very loyal to his alpha and it was nice to have the beta treat her decently.
