Cap and the others were getting hammered now. Chitauri flying overhead, soldiers on the ground, and that massive Leviathan just plowing through buildings like they were made of cardboard. But somehow, even in the middle of a war zone, they found time to chat.
"Look, I just don't buy that Aidan's some kind of monster," Cap said, back-to-back with Natasha and Hawkeye, shield up and deflecting energy blasts.
"What, the Hand Island thing?" Natasha asked, putting a bullet through a Chitauri's head and grabbing its weapon in the same motion.
"Yeah. If it wasn't for his company, half of New York would be dead right now," Cap said as Hawkeye blocked a shot aimed at his head.
"Can't just look at the surface, Rogers," Hawkeye said with this grim smile. "Guy slaughtered an entire organization without blinking when he is just a kid . That's not normal."
"Then why didn't anyone arrest him afterward?" Cap sounded genuinely confused.
"You didn't see what that virus could do," Natasha said, shaking her head. "No country wanted to roll those dice."
"But what about right now? The way his company's trying to save everyone?"
"After what you told me, I looked into it. Baymax has helped almost 200 million people worldwide, and this is the first time they've ever—"
ZAP!
Energy blast cut him off as a whole squad of Chitauri on flying bikes showed up, bombing the hell out of their position. They scattered, diving for whatever cover they could find.
Down below, Tony was playing tag with the Leviathan, flying circles around it while the thing tried to eat him. The situation was getting worse by the minute—more aliens kept pouring through that portal, and they still had no clue how to close it.
Then this motorcycle came roaring through the ruins, rider in a Baymax uniform.
"Banner?" Natasha squinted, trying to make out the guy's face through the smoke.
He parked and walked over. "Looks like you could use some help."
"I've seen worse," Natasha said, "You joined Baymax?" She nodded at his uniform.
"Yeah. Aidan sent me over." Banner was actually smiling, like he was looking forward to something. Truth was, Aidan had basically told him to go nuts.
"Tony, we found him," Cap said into his comm.
"Banner?" Tony's voice crackled back.
"Yeah, you said to call when he showed up."
"Perfect! Tell him to get angry. This is gonna be good!" Tony sounded way too excited as he came diving toward them with the Leviathan right behind him.
"I don't see how this is gonna be good," Natasha muttered.
Tony kept flying lower, the massive alien whale-thing following him down between the buildings. Banner just started walking toward the incoming Leviathan like he was taking a stroll in the park.
"Dr. Banner," Cap called out, "now might be a really good time to get angry."
Banner looked back with this little smile. "That's my secret, Cap." His face started changing, anger building. "I'm always angry."
The Leviathan was bearing down on him now. Banner's body exploded outward, clothes shredding as green muscle mass expanded everywhere.
WHAM!
The Hulk's fist connected with the Leviathan's armored head. This tiny green figure versus a thousand-foot bio-mechanical whale, and the whale lost. The impact flipped the entire creature end over end, exposing its soft underbelly.
"ROOOAAAAR!" The thing was definitely hurt.
"My turn!" Tony fired a missile straight into the exposed flesh. BOOM! BOOM! The explosion tore the Leviathan apart from the inside. Cap threw up his shield to protect Natasha from the flying blood and metal chunks. Hawkeye dove behind a wrecked car.
CRASH!
The bio-mechanical corpse hit the street like a falling building.
The Chitauri around them started screaming in rage, ripping off their metal face masks to show these grotesque alien features underneath.
"Damn, that was beautiful!" Aidan was sitting on Stark Tower's platform, watching the whole show.
"Hey Thor, you sure you don't need backup?" he called over to where Thor was still trading blows with Loki.
"Just keep helping with the evacuation!" Thor shouted back, smashing Loki's scepter away and following up with a kick to the gut that sent his brother flying.
But even while fighting, Thor couldn't help himself. "You see what's happening down there? You think you can still control this?"
Loki looked... well, pathetic. And maybe a little sorry? "It's too late. Can't stop them now." He was staring down at the destruction, the burning city, and for a second he looked like he actually regretted it.
"No, hey, it's not too late! We can fix this together!" Thor got all hopeful, rushing over like maybe they could have a brotherly moment.
STAB!
Course Loki had a knife. Right in Thor's side.
"You always were too emotional, brother," Loki said with that smug grin.
But Thor was a warrior, not an idiot. While Loki was busy being proud of himself, Thor bear-hugged him and threw him off the platform. The mind scepter clattered to the ground.
They wrestled for a bit, Thor bleeding but still winning, until Loki saw his chance and threw himself off the platform. Landed on a Chitauri aircraft, gave Thor a little wave, and flew off looking pleased with himself.
"Your brother dropped his stick," Aidan said, nodding at the scepter.
"Can you hold onto it?" Thor asked, grabbing his hammer and flying off after more aliens.
"Sure thing. Asgardians really don't do 'thank you,' do they?" Aidan muttered, using an energy whip to snag the scepter.
That's when his comm lit up.
"Mr. Parker? This is President Dennis. I know you can handle this situation. I'm willing to agree to all your terms."
