~~~ [START]
Vlad's nostrils awoke him from his nap.
The smell of dog was too strong.
So strong that it awakened him in an instant.
Getting up from the comfort of the uncomfortable sofa, he made his way to the window and opened it.
Outside, in the far-outstretched forest, there was nothing but the sight of trees to behold.
But he was a monster, and sight was not the only sense he needed to perceive.
So Vlad jumped out, fear proving to be nonexistent.
He could feel the difference in the wind as he fell to the ground.
It reeked of dog.
It was nighttime, so his vision proved effective, as if cutting through the night like a blade slicing plastic.
Their scent was visible.
He could see a clear trail left by their large, outgrown bodies.
Alucard once told him that magic existed, so this didn't strike surprise.
But Vlad was curious.
So he dashed, moving past the trees with an unearthly motion.
Time seemed to stop with his acceleration.
In seconds, he reached what looked to be a cliff.
And the scent he once felt was reduced to half, as if the creatures had masked themselves in another form.
It smelt human, like a mixture of the two.
Magic done by others was always too interesting.
And the fact that this small town not only held ghouls but shifters proved too unusual.
He wondered how they could even coexist, because, from his knowledge, supernatural creatures were all enemies,
only leaning on no one but their own.
So Vlad dropped his body and sat at the end of the cliff.
His eyes drifted upward, acknowledging the beauty that came with the spectacle.
The stars seemed brighter that night, as if acknowledging his presence.
So he fell flat to the ground and spoke nothing.
Did nothing.
Just listened.
It was peaceful, the music of the night.
That was until he heard the sound of slow-approaching footsteps.
He didn't move or try to look up at who it was.
Because the scent was enough.
Flowers.
Not just any, but a specific pattern.
Alice.
And as if knowing that he had noticed her, she only moved near his body and sat close to where he was lying.
"Doing some hiking?" her voice finally asked, her head tilting upward to gain a view of the silent, shining, darkened sky.
"This late?" He raised a brow. "Nope."
And she slightly giggled at his reply, unknowingly finding amusement at how casual he seemed.
"Then what?" She pushed her body, bouncing closer to where he lay.
"Trailing some dogs." And she laughed at his words.
"You?" He finally asked, moving his head and tilting it to where she sat. Their eyes interlocked.
But, unlike what he expected, their golden color had gone, now only replaced with the color of dark blood.
They seemed black, but with his enhanced vision, it was clear as day what color they resembled.
"Hunting," she replied, her voice betraying no hesitation, as if what she had said was obvious.
"Alone?" He could smell the scents of retreating bouquets.
And she shook her head.
"The hunting is already done," she replied, "so they left."
And there was silence.
Vlad had already returned his eyes to the sky, and Alice was now lying, resembling his exact same posture.
They didn't speak nor blink, but only acknowledged each other's presence, as if they were hanging on the same rope, cursed by the same fate, the same thread, a thin line of string.
But the silence had to be broken; it was never absolute.
"You know what I am?" Alice took that pleasure, perhaps feeling as if it had grown too much.
And Vlad only nodded.
"You?" He questioned.
"Not really," she replied. "Carlisle has a prediction, though."
"Who's Carlisle?" His question was genuine.
"My father." She smiled at those words.
"What's his prediction?" Vlad turned his head once again, but this time, they failed to lock with Alice, because she had taken the same posture as him.
"He didn't say," she replied, finally rising from her seated position, looking at his lying eyes, and stretching her hand to hold his chest. "Tell me," she spoke in whispers.
"Take a guess."
She tilted her head in a thoughtful expression.
"You don't smell like us," she confirmed, "but you also don't smell human." Her hand, perhaps feeling too comfortable, moved down, just enough to touch his abs. And she grinned, clearly showing no shame in her actions.
"I want a hint," she threatened.
But he acted oblivious to her actions.
Inwardly, praying that his little brother wouldn't awaken from his sleep.
He was young, at an age where his hormones were basically programmed to view everything sexually. Even he, an immortal being who had the power of the gods, was weak to it.
She only giggled after her words, as if clearly seeing through his act.
"I can hear your heart beating". She whispered. Moving her other hand to his chest and noticing how its beats had become too fast to be considered normal, he was nervous.
And it was good, at least for her.
And her other hand, the one that was lying on the abs, slowly moved downward.
Approaching Vlad's brother.
Even the gods couldn't help him now. He was simply fucked.
And immediately, as if on command, His brother awoke.
