They were still too far to perceive his figure.

But Vlad saw them still.

Far as they approached.

Halting his pace, he grinned as the body of a towering tree obstructed his gaze.

So, he moved towards its frame, leaned his figure on its large standing self.

Closing his eyes, Vlad instantly began to focus.

He focused on his veins, the unneeded inhuman blood flowing within its being.

His form, its structure.

Everything, until he became nothing.

Nothing but a cloud of red floating mist.

yet even then, the gods would swear they saw him grin.

They would swear they had seen his teeth.

Teeth of utter monstrous beauty.

An insult to the heavenly.

"Sam!" a wolf that was trailing behind its pack suddenly panicked. "The scent is getting stronger. Are you sure this won't break the treaty?"

And the wolf, the giant monster he was referring to, just ignored his words like he was nothing but a peasant—no, it was more like an act to assert his dominance.

Sam looked back as he decreased his speed.

"That creature has reached far enough," he tried to argue, but another monstrous wolf suddenly jumped right in front of him, just enough to obstruct his movement. "What!" and Sam's words shook the beast to its core.

It was frightening.

"Sam, please," it pleaded. But Sam was too blinded by what he was.

"It didn't even pass the restriction. Why are you so worked up, anyway?" another, much older wolf tried to shoot in.

"Are you questioning my commands?" Sam deflected with a question.

"No, Sam!" the other defended his superior. "He is just… all we are trying to say is that the Cullen didn't break anything. For fuck's sake, man, they didn't even pass the barrier."

Sam only sighed through his wolf-like nostrils.

His pack, family, and friends—standing with the enemy.

Defending it.

Was this how it felt to be betrayed by your loved ones?

Those you trust.

"Is this about Leah?" The oldest of the pack spoke through balls.

Who did he think he was to ask such a question?

What boundary did he cross to gain such nerve?

SWOO!

Sam attacked.

It was quick, brutal, and instant.

The wolf had fallen.

And Sam just stood there watching, waiting.

Until the wolf he had bitten, turned unconscious in return.

A fair trade for the insult he had spoken.

And the others.

The remaining three who had watched it all play out finally understood the difference.

Sam was strong, too strong to speak against.

So, one by one, they made an attempt at turning back.

Or at least tried to.

Because before they could leave, before retreat could acknowledge them, a growl was present in their midst.

Yet, it did not sound wolf-like or like the growl of defiance.

It sounded too foreign, too monstrous.

And Sam, the only one facing its gaze when it appeared, backed away while trying to maintain as much eye contact as he could.

He did not know what it was or if it had any consciousness.

But the way it growled in his direction, the way it smiled with his slow-moving retreat,

it just felt different.

Almost too intellectual to overlook.

It stood 15 feet in height, and its hair was fully colored in red.

It resembled a wolf, but the six legs it was using as feet spoke differently.

It smiled; Sam could see it.

The spark that spoke from its eyes.

The drool that dropped down from its clawed lips.

It was mocking him.

"Grab Paul and leave!" he commanded, hesitation void from his voice.

"But Sam…?" Embry was hesitant.

"Shut up and move!" he insisted, his words not sounding at all like a suggestion.

"Let's move…" Jared tried to speak in, but before he could warn, before he could edge for retreat, the Monster moved in, bolting forward with its inhuman speed.

Jared did not react; he simply could not.

As the Monster bit his neck and used it to launch him to the back with air-breaking speeds.

Jared, the once beast of a wolf, now lay unconscious.

And his body, doing nothing but lying on the darkened ground as evidence for those who

stood before him to see.

And they all saw him.

Standing there, stunned at the core because of his predicament.

They did not speak or try to move.

They just stood there.

Then, one by one, as if possessed by some spiritual being, they all lost consciousness, falling to the ground, doing the same as he whom they considered to be family.

No one attacked because the monstrous six-legged beast still stood where it always had been, waiting, watching.

SWOO!

Then behind it, moving as if inhuman, was a corpse.

Her eyes widened, and her shocked expression hinted at disbelief.

"What… what are you?" she asked, as she finally saw him.

The monster that Vlad had once spoken about.

The God amongst men.

The Descendant of the Devil.

The Man-Eater.

Hated by the heavens.

Lol I felt like I had to say this. Guys looking back, i can see how much i have improved, trust me i improve. The fight scene here seems rushed and stuff, but my writing his improved a lot in future chapters.

And, yes, I'm not using AI. I don't know how some of you guys think lol. You think AI would make these many mistakes with grammar and stuff, if it were the one helping me.

I'm just used to using [M–dashes] don't believe me, well judge for yourself, do you really think AI writes like me -...- if you do, I'm really flattered, it only means I'm improving a lot.
