The abandoned office building reeked of mold and stale fear. Shattered windows rattled in the cold wind as masked figures slipped through the shadows.
On the upper floors, the Cursed Ones moved like predators.
Livewire's gloves sparked, the electric arcs briefly illuminating a trembling goon before she dropped him twitching to the floor. "One down," she muttered, stepping over him.
Two corridors over, Harley Quinn twirled her bat, humming off-key. A panicked scream echoed from ahead. She giggled, swung the door wide, and sent two of Scarecrow's men sprawling. "Nighty-night, boys!"
Katana's blade whispered through the stale air, striking masks and weapons aside. Her stance was calm, precise, every strike deliberate. Behind her visor, her eyes locked on movement ahead. "Clear," she said, and the three women pressed on.
On the ground floor, the real fight raged.
Red Hood lunged at Scarecrow, pistols barking. The villain's scythe sliced at the air, the blade trailing wisps of toxin. Both wore filters beneath their masks, their movements sharp and unyielding.
"Thought you could hide here, Crane?" Red Hood snarled, slamming a kick into the criminal's ribs.
Scarecrow stumbled back, swinging wildly—
CRASH!
A shadow swept through the broken window. Batman landed hard, cape flaring, with Nightwing right behind him.
They moved as one—Nightwing's batons cracked against Scarecrow's weapon arm while Batman's gauntlet slammed into his chest. In seconds, Scarecrow was on his knees, wheezing through the filter mask.
Nightwing stepped between them, blocking Red Hood's advance. "Back off. He's down. You can't kill him."
"You're interfering!" Red Hood snapped, guns still raised.
Batman's voice cut in, cold and final. "We got to him first. The Cursed Ones don't get to execute him—"
A single, metallic voice cut through the tension.
"Dismantle."
Time seemed to stop. Then Scarecrow's head slid from his shoulders, hitting the floor with a dull thud before rolling to rest against Nightwing's boots.
Nightwing's eyes widened. "NOOO! Why!"
From the shadows, Jason stepped forward, lowering a smoking sidearm. "Just doing my job. Another scum redeemed… That should drop the crime rate under seventy percent. Isn't that fantastic?"
"You monster!" Nightwing snarled, stepping forward—only to feel Batman's hand clamp onto his shoulder.
"No… We can't," Batman said quietly. His eyes weren't on Jason—they were on the black drones hovering above, cameras trained on the scene.
Jason smirked. "Oh, these things? Just for documentation. Proof we kill monsters. This one's got footage of the toxin your boy here was about to dump into the city's water supply. One inch away from making all of Gotham lose their minds. We saved the city. Made sure it'll never happen again."
Batman's gaze hardened. "…Was it you?"
"Me what?" Jason said innocently, fingers tapping a control. The drones powered down with a soft hum.
"Lex."
Jason pulled a folded paper from his coat, waving it mockingly. "Nope. Not on the list. So… not me. I wish it had been, though." He grinned, turning to his team. "Cursed Ones—We're out."
And just like that, they melted into the shadows, leaving Batman and Nightwing alone with the corpse and the silence.
...
The streets shook with each of Giganta's steps. Cars skidded away, sirens blaring in the distance as civilians scrambled for cover. The towering red-haired brawler swung her fist, smashing through a line of delivery trucks.
"Still overcompensating, I see," Wonder Woman's voice rang out, calm yet edged with challenge.
Giganta's eyes narrowed as she spotted her old foe descending from the sky, golden armor gleaming in the sunlight. "You again," she growled, swinging a massive backhand.
Diana blocked with her bracers, the clash ringing like struck steel. "It's been, what? Three weeks since last time?" she quipped, shoving the giantess back.
"Four," Giganta grinned, sweeping her leg to catch the Amazon off guard. Wonder Woman leapt over the strike, bringing her shield down against Giganta's knee, forcing her to stumble.
This wasn't new for them. The dance was always the same—Giganta rampaged, Diana countered. Punches, blocks, the occasional witty remark. Neither woman was under any illusion that this would be their last clash.
But today, something changed.
As Giganta lunged forward, ready to grab Diana by the waist and slam her into the pavement, a blur cut across her vision—
CRACK!
A sharp kick landed square on her cheek, sending her staggering two steps back.
"What the—?!" she hissed, clutching her jaw.
A figure landed lightly between her and Wonder Woman. Dark coat, calm posture, eyes sharp.
Jason.
He didn't even look at Giganta as he addressed Diana. "Forgive the intrusion. Thought you could use a hand."
Giganta roared in fury, raising her foot to stomp the newcomer. But the moment she shifted her weight—
The golden lasso whirled through the air, wrapping tight around her ankles. Wonder Woman yanked, sending the giantess crashing onto her back with a thunderous boom.
Jason's fingers moved in a precise, ritual-like gesture. His right hand drew back as if holding an invisible bowstring. A crackling aura of fire spiraled from his palm, condensing into a blazing arrow.
"Fuga—"
The air shimmered as he released it. The flame shot forward in a streak, striking Giganta's face. Heat flared, singeing hair and skin, the force just enough to leave her gasping in pain before darkness claimed her.
She hit the pavement unconscious, the ground trembling under her weight.
Jason landed beside Wonder Woman, casual as if they'd just finished a morning jog. "Wonder Woman… it's a pleasure to meet you."
Diana didn't hesitate. Her sword was out in a heartbeat, the razor edge hovering just under his jaw.
"What do you WANT?" she demanded, her eyes like tempered steel.
Jason just grinned wider. "Guess we're skipping the thank-you part, huh?"
