Chapter 9 - S1 E9 - LHS-1361

The days passed by in a flash with Kilo once again boarding his ship, it was filled with the smell of fresh oil and grease along with hints of burnt metal. New plates covered large sections of the ship's interior, a good sign that electrical, hydraulics and fuel systems had all been restored to a functional condition.

The ship whirred to life emitting a low hum as each system flickered to life one at a time. The preflight checks confirmed all systems operational within acceptable levels, until the ship's thrusters attempted to lift off the pad. Just as the flames flickered out multiple deafening bangs echoed throughout the ship and Prospect, the ground crew rushed to grab safety equipment while Kilo hovered mere metres off the pad. Time seemed to slow as everyone waited for the inevitable drop into the pad but it never came, all systems on the ship gave acceptable readings.

The ground crew rushed to the ship as soon as it landed with a few vaulting the barrier, they began to search through every system trying to figure what made the banging. Kilo watched them for an hour before one approached him claiming that the banging was made from hydraulic lines running the new fluid through, clearly they found nothing but still had to give some form of reassurance. After a few more quick sweeps of the ship Kilo was finally given the all clear to take to the skies once more.

Hugging the enforced speed limit of Prospect Kilo exited the the flight zone, the ship performed just as well as before if not better. As the life support systems recycled oxygen Kilo could smell the oil and burnt metal slowly slipping away. Leaving never ending white streaks through space Kilo pushed the ship to its absolute limits to ensure everything was working deed operational.

"Critical medical equipment required, awaiting acceptance." The ship had picked up another signal with it luckily only requesting equipment rather than a search and rescue.

The signal source originated from an earth like planet on the far side of the system, in mere seconds the streak of light stretched towards LHS-1361e. The planet had one large super continent similar to earths Pangea, the rest of the planets was filled by an enormous ocean. The dominant species on the planet are the Thal'zar as they are the only ones that can survive the argon rich atmosphere, the few other species that inhabit the planet survive in specialised habitats and suits. The largest city on LHS-1361e sat in the deepest area of the ocean with suitable accommodation for both aquatic and non aquatic life forms.

The planet was quarantined after a deadly waterborne pathogen breached containment from a research facility. The pathogen spread planet wide in mere days due to ocean currents feeding it into vital water sources. The pathogen had been reported to start showing symptoms mere hours after exposure, the infected would develop a sickness similar to the humans common flu.The second stage would slowly create blood clots within the host, this killed every species except Thal'zar and Ventrix life forms. The third stage slowly shut down the brain resulting in degradation of speech, memory and motor functions. The fourth stage would induce necrosis resulting in the decay of organic tissue killing all surviving life forms.

The medical supplies were already on the planet but due to strict quarantine enforcements they could not be transported to the research facility. The supplies were being held within one of the few smaller cities located on the supercontinent that hadn't been affected by the pathogen due to its seperate water supply to the rest of the planet.

"Kilo Uniform Victor - 6583 you are clear for landing on pad SM-07" The flight controller directed him to land on one of the small medical landing pads to quickly load the medical supplies along with quarantine equipment.
