Rounding the corner to Mercer's office Sami quickly turned the knob ignoring that it was closed as he swung the door open.
"GRAN-", Sami trailed off as barged into Mercer's office.
Multiple heads turned to look at Sami as he grew embarrassed. Really he should've knocked but because of his impatientness he interrupted what looked like an important meeting.
Mercer grabbed his nose, annoyed that his meeting was being interrupted. Where did he go wrong with this boy? Not only that, but he felt embarrassed at the fact his grandson was running in a hospital gown. Sigh he should've let the boy stay at the school instead of in that city.
"Um I..I.. headmaster", Sami stammered as he pulled the hospital gown around his body.
"Why are you running around in a hospital gown?", Sighed Mercer as he felt a growing headache.
Sami began to shift awkwardly from foot to foot as the room stared at him. Sami tried to move his mouth but words refused to come out.
"Sir", a deep voice called out.
"What, Roric", replied Mercer. He tone held mild annoyance to it.
Roric was the head of the department for intelligence. Standing at 6'1 he was not overly muscular but looked as if he worked out. What made him important to the college and Mercer was the fact all missions he assigned come from Roric.
Roric also gave knowledge on the state of each city. Many people that either got injured or couldn't make it as knight usually joined his department. He would assign people to different cities and rotate them on a 6 month basis.
The other four teachers in the room were Valerius, head of the magic department. Seraphina, head of the tech department. Throne head of the combat department. Aris head of the history department.
Each department head helped with assigned hiring and assigning teachers along with taking care of the various students. This helped with taking the majority of the brunt of work off Mercy. Who else had to manage all the entire Western Kingdom.
"We can reconvene this meeting later if you'd like. It'll also allow more of the teachers to return from being sent out to scout for more dangers around the city.", Roric offered.
Mercer began to contemplate on ending the meeting, because it would be better if everyone was together. Lyra came barging into the room hitting Sami with the door causing him to fall forward.
Bang!
Sami hit the floor hard as his backside was shown to the room. Lyra just looked embarrassed at interrupting what seems to be an important meeting.
"Let's go Sami", Lyra demanded. Lyra blushing as red as her hair as she tried to help him off the ground.
Mercer's headache began to grow worse as the teachers in the room began to laugh at the scene. Lyra kept trying to pull Sami off the ground as Sami lay there dazed from being hit with the door.
"We will finish this meeting later, everyone out",Mercer commanded.
Roric put a folder on Mercer's desk full of documents before heading out the room. Making sure to step around Lyra and Sami. The rest of the teachers followed suit, some covering up their mouths hide the fact they were laughing.
"Ugh, common bookworm let's-", Lyra started as she finally got Sami to his feet.
"You two stay", Mercer assisted as he gestured to the chairs.
"I think we should take our leave specially with Sami dazed sir", Lyra insisted nervously.
"Yeah..yeah I'm dazed", Sami added in confusion.
Mercer slammed his hand on the desk and made Lyra and Sami jump.
"It's not a request sit!"Mercer demanded.
Lyra quickly dragged Sami to the chairs and sat down as Mercer glared at them.
"So explain to me why you came barging into my office?", Asked Mercer as he looked back and forth between the both of them.
Before Lyra or Sami answered the door opened once again with Zoe bragging. She leaned over on her knees gasping for breath as Mercer's eye began to twitch.
"Young lady take a sit", Mercer growled out
Zoe took a seat next to Sami, her breathing quickly returning to normal as she looked embarrassed. Mercer hasn't in a long time felt this much annoyance. Of course it had to be from his own grandson.
"I'll ask once again", Mercer stated. "Why did you guys interrupt an important meeting?"
"Grandfather", Sami slurred as he tried to answer.
"Grandfather"Zoe mouthed at Lyra. Lyra just shrugged in return, already knowing they are related.
Mercer waved his hand, a light green glow flowed from his palm. Wrapping around Sami briefly before dissipating.
"Oh my head feels so much", Sami cheered as he fist pumped.
"Can you please just answer my question", Mercer repeated.
"Right, so how do I put this um I found out im turning into a vampire", Sami told the room.
Mercer's eyes widened in shock while Zoe and Lyra looked at Sami.
"How are you.. Um why do you.. Honestly I'm lost", Zoe said, breaking the silence in the room.
"So my um familiar Onyx told me today that she's been trying to hold back the demon energy since I was attacked by the vampires.", Sami explained. "It's part of the reason my magic has been wonky with Onyx trying to stop it from combining."
"That doesn't make sense. I thought the healers drained any lingering energy from your body.",Lyra muttered
Mercer leaned back in his chair with a heavy look on his face. "So the magic actually never got drained. It just disappeared so we thought he wasn't affected by it."
"Well you're not wrong, I wasn't really affected by it at first.", Sami added in.
"I forgot you used the old spell so that means you're slowly merging with Onyx anyways. Meaning you were already turning into one or at least a partial one until that vampire attacked.", informed Mercer as he stroked his beard.
Sami looked at Mercer hard."I actually didn't know I was merging with her", he replied in shock.
"I guess another thing Anna didn't mention to you. That spell was stopped being used not only because it was dangerous to both familiar and the person casting the spell.", Mercer lectured. "Eventually both the caster and the familiar will merge, granted, if it is like a humanoid familiar then you can keep your own individuality."
"Can we back up real quick so Onyx is a vampire?", asked Lyra as she looked at Sami.
"Yes, apparently she is someone called Lamia," Sami recalled.
"Lamia is actually pretty cool name", praised Zoe.
"Of course my stupid grandson had to have found the Lamia", Mercer muttered as he got up from his desk.
Walking towards the window he began to look at the courtyard. The Lamia not only was the leader of the demon army that threatened the kingdom for years, but she also was the first vampire. Cursed by the gods to walk this world for eternity though that is up to interpretation.
"So what's Lamia", Sami wondered out loud.
"I've learned about a bunch of monsters, but never heard of that one", Lyra stated.
"Maybe Onyx is some kind of super vampire that's weak right now", Zoe speculated.
"The Lamia is something that we all have no business to deal with right now", Mercer interrupted the conversation. "At the moment let's just keep this information between us."
"Yes sir", the three students vowed at the same time.
"Grandfather, there is more I have to say." Sami offered.
Mercer though continued staring out the window. Anything else Sami had to add is something he already knows. It's safer for the other two not to hear that Onyx is the reason for the monsters today or the fact a lot of people are looking for her.
"I have a task for you guys", Mercer declared ignoring Sami's words. "I need you guys to help with the clean up task in the village that was destroyed. Also keep on the look out for any extra signs of magic.
"But Sir", Sami shouted, jumping from his chair.
"My decision is final, anything you have we can discuss. You all are dismissed.", Mercer commanded his back still to them as he looked out the window.
Sami grumbled but began making his way behind the other two out the door. Though they were oddly quiet as they exited.
"Also Sami please make sure to put some clothes on", Mercer reminded him before Sami exited out the door.
Causing Sami to become very embarrassed at the reminder he's still in a hospital gown. Lyra and Zoe just snickered as he rushed to his room which is located not too far from Mercer's office.
"We'll meet you outside by the gates when you're ready bookworm", Lyra chuckled along with Zoe.
Sami ignored their snickering as he grabbed his hospital gown tightly as he quickly tried to open up his bedroom door.
