Chapter 42 - C042 : Ocean Monster Hunt (4)

With him back on the giant floating ship, well it looked more like a gigantic gun of some kind, Shurry dusted himself off, noticing he was mostly alone, he stood up and stretched a little bit. It was just then that the same violent shiver went down his spine once more, only this time, it coarse throughout his entire body, and shook his soul.

Silence fell upon the open air, no one could hear a thing, that was just how heavy the pressure had become. And then, as if the terror born of being robbed of one's senses wasn't enough… Waves- no, this wasn't waves, a gargantuan creature of titanic size reared its ugly mug, and let out a powerful roar, creating a positive pressure zone all around it, its massive neck leading up to a mouth littered with multiple layers of teeth, a meat grinder… And then, as if to spit, and laugh in the face of reason, several tendril-like limbs flowed like a mane of tentacles.

Under the surface, the majority of its body coiled up and sprang forth allowing it to swim at ludicrous speeds… Of course it had a handful of fins and other tendril-like limbs that provided aid in such an endeavor.

Finally, the roar announcing its presence had ended, and rain fell from a cloudless sky, that was just how much force its movements had. The sea water had fallen back down as rain…

Shurry turned, to see the sight of a monster among monsters. His eyes widened, however, what he saw wasn't an impossible height, it was then that he finally understood the true feeling behind those shakes he had felt before. I want to kill it… But, can I? I doubt anything I have could deal any significant damage. That, and I'm out of energy. Walking is already a bit much.

He had been walking to the safety point where all the other students who were objectively far too weak to fight such a thing, had been located. However, he had been stopped by Malik, and handed several potions.

"Heal up, and recover your stamina, and mind, young Shurry. If things get ugly, you'll need to help the others escape." Malik said, trembling as his hand offered the potions, the liquid inside sloshed around with reckless abandon.

Shurry, ignoring the comment about fleeing, took the potions and drank them down completely. Not allowing even a single drop to go to waste. "There, now I'll be able to fight!" He said, and ran off to where he knew Baldr was…

Now with the empty vials on the floor, Malik looked down as they rolled. "Fear, and cowardice…" He shook his head side to side slowly. His ears picked up the sounds of battle, warrior's shouts and mage's spells landing, all followed with irritated cries from the leviathan. "He left both of those behind, when did it happen?" He gripped his staff tight, his knuckles went white. "What have I been doing…" He sighed… "I'm level 5 now. I should act like it. You there, take care of protecting the children." He said leaving instructions to his subordinate teacher, and most experienced student before taking off at high speed.

Baldr was in the middle of monitoring the information given by the weapon crew, and the float crew. It painted an ugly picture… "We're only going to get a single shot off. Why couldn't this happen when we got a fresh supply of magical fuel-" His hand slid from his face, revealing a rather eager young werewolf. "Oh, son. What do you need?" He forced a smile.

"I want my status updated!" The tail beat side to side with vigor.

He's always been really smart, even if he had some regression to younger child-like behavior, he wouldn't come ask this of me without a good reason, and that is… Either way, it'll be nice to update him again. "Alright, this is going to be a quick one. There's no time for a paper translation. Or any time to hide your status again."

"That's fine daddy! I'm going to need another update after this as well!" Shurry smiled, and showed his back.

"Oh my… You really… Ready did grow a whole bunch since the last time I updated your status…" He chuckled, then whispered something so that only Shurry would hear it. "Depending on how you use it, this fight might be won with minimal injuries, and casualties." Shurry had already run off, now with a far greater speed than he had prior. "300 points per stat per level up, seems about right, that's about 3 levels right there… I'll have to ask Leon for more specifics later. For now, just do your best, you, and Luna."

Malik arrived near Leon's perch, his most powerful spell having been chanted already, he now only needed to use it. It was a poor match up for the enemy they were fighting, however, that didn't matter. "Scaling Sagittarii Salvo!"

Hearing the name of a trigger spell being cast, the warriors from the Poseidon familia retreated with purpose. And just in the nick of time too, because there wasn't anytime left as the hail of arrows fell upon their target. Each arrow carried with it a powerful flame transferring a ton of heat to the Leviathan. Thousands of these arrows fell, hitting multiple weak points, however, as a testament to the sheer freaky might of the Leviathan, it was relatively unscathed, with just a handful of burn marks.

It was, however, quite pissed now. And so with a roar, riddled with anger, and directed at the two perched in its sights, Malik's bladder refused to listen to him for a few seconds before he got a hold of it again.

"Damn."

"No need to be ashamed, I nearly wet myself just now too. Besides, aren't they all soaking down there?" Leon laughed as his seventh weapon shattered. The Leviathan, not amused, stretched out one its head tendrils making a wide sweep. "Well, shit… I can't move right now."

"You should really work on that…"

"Heh heh, you're right. But it seems like we'll be fine this time."

"What do you-"

Just as the tendril was about to hit Leon, Shurry had come running and set up an angled light platform diverting the tendril up, and out of the way.
