Chapter 1 - The Mysterious Old Man

Inside a small bedroom, a young man lay slumped on a chair while holding his phone. The young man had short roughly kept black hair and beautiful light brown eyes. He always had those sharp eyes and a detached look on his face. The young man was Yuan Zhen and currently he was constantly refreshing the webpage waiting for his favourite webnovel's new chapter to be released.

"Zhen'er dinners ready, eat quickly or the food will get cold."

Yuan Zhen sighed and turned off his phone as he kept it on the table beside him before getting up and stretching a bit.

"Coming Mum," Yuan Zhen replied as he opened his room's door and headed towards the kitchen

Yuan Zhen was always like that. He has a deep passion for novels. Unfortunately, pursuing writing as a career is difficult which led him to choose a career in medical field. Honestly, he felt that he had chosen the wrong field. However, he had already chosen it and there was no going back.

Yuan Zhen immediately joined his mother who was sitting alone in the dining table while watching the telivision. Yuan Zhen's mother looked to be in her late forties and had a similar appearance as her son with light brown eyes and long black hair

Lin Meiyun turned to her son and said, "Zhen'er, your tests are coming so you should focus on studies more. Don't be glued to your phone."

"I know mum, you don't have to worry about me. Anyways, Mum can I go for a walk after dinner?" Yuan Zhen replied while looking at his food. Lin Meiyun nodded and turned back to the telivision. Yuan Zhen quickly finished eating and kept the dishes in the sink before grabbing his jacket and heading out.

It was cold outside. The jacket proved to be of little help for keeping the heat away. Yuan Zhen went to a nearby park and sat alone on one of the bench. He looked at the ground and appeared to be thinking deeply about something.

Honestly, Yuan Zhen felt tired, unmotivated and aimless. He felt as though he was just drifting through life and not living in it. He also couldn't stop thinking about her. Her last words still kept ringing in his mind—You and I live in different worlds and we will never be able to be together. I am sorry, Yuan Zhen.

She was Yuan Zhen's childhood crush and first love. Just when everything was going well, she suddenly disappeared. She had returned and met with him one day and these were her words from that day. After that day, she disappeared again and never returned.

Yuan Zhen shook his head, patted his thighs and got up. Dwelling on past memories will yield no results. One must always look forward. It was getting late and no one else was in the park apart from him. He took a deep breath and decided to head back home. However, just when he turned towards the exit, a bright light startled him which forced him to shut his eyes.

When Yuan Zhen opened his eyes, he momentarily stunned. In front of him was an old man with long, thin white hair flowing on his back. The most weird thing was that the old man was wearing a pure white hanfu. This perplexed Yuan Zhen as he was not able to understand why would one wear a hanfu at a park, at this hour. The old man appeared to cast a judging look at him while nodding to himself.

"To think that I would find someone with Sacred Yang Physique in this place. His natural talent may not be the best but with some diligent efforts and treasures, he would surely be able to cultivate up to a high realm. He is the best candidate for my inheritance. I would have given it to Yan'er but this technique can only be used by a man," Li Changhe muttered to himself.

"Can I help you with something Grandpa?" Yuan Zhen asked while trying his best to be polite. Honestly, he just wanted to leave at this point but the old man was blocking the exit.

Li Changhe continued to nod to himself and felt that he needed to get close to this boy. "What's your name young man?"

"Yuan Zhen. Have me met before Grandpa? If it's allright with you, then I must get going—my mum's probably worried about me." Yuan Zhen tried to leave the park but then the old man grabbed his shoulder.

"Actually, we may not have met before but I believe that we have a lot to talk about," Li Changhe said and then looked around.

"This place is not suitable so let's change our location, shall we?" Li Changhe snapped his fingers

Before Yuan Zhen could say anything, his vision blanked and when he opened his eyes again, he was left shocked. He was in this blank white world with only a white round table and two white chairs in front of him. As far as he could see, there was nothing else there and a eerie white fog surrounded them. The ground below him rippled with his every step.

"Would you like some tea, young lad?" The old man smiled at him amusingly while pouring tea into two cups from a kettle.
