Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

The city outside was filled with flickering lights and a few stars could be seen on the horizon. As he stood on the eleventh floor of the building, gazing at the expansive view- he heard a strange knock. The door to the office opened and his employee looked at him nervously.

"S-sorry." The employee stuttered upon seeing him, "But that guy is asking for you. I told him you already left but he insisted that I check this room…"

"No worries." The man said lightly, putting on a casual smile even though he was rather displeased on the inside. He brushed past the employee and headed to the terrace which was located at the end of the corridor. A stray bulb broke unexpectedly providing him with a sense of deep foreboding.

As he opened the glass door leading to the terrace, a strong wind hit his face. His eyes adjusted to the darkness of the outside world and he saw that person.

"What are you doing here?" He asked with a strong voice, heading past the giant trees that had been lined around the terrace and potted plants lined alongside the railing which was within his line of sight. The terrace wasn't very large. Rather it was the kind of terrace that employees went to when they wanted a quick smoking break. Standing at one end and leaning against the railing was a man with jet, black hair.

"It's nice to see you too, Rowan."

Rowan frowned at the unwelcome intrusion. The man was smoking a cigarette, holding it loosely between his index and middle finger, leaving both his hands on the railing.

"I came here for a reason."

"What reason?" Rowan said harshly. He had never wanted to see him again since that incident came to happen. It was slightly regrettable but not enough for him to feel any remorse.

"I'm giving you an ultimatum." The cocky way in which he said it was unbearable- reprehensible, he couldn't stand to look at his face for a single second longer so he turned his eyes to the ground. The black and grey tiles under his feet were a little faded, a trickle of water from a nearby hose spilling between the cracks.

"Give me the ___ or else get ready to declare a lockdown."

"That will never happen." Rowan scoffed. Although he seemed stable on the outside, his right hand was trembling slightly. He knew that the person before him was more than capable of that.

"Really? But if you think that then-" The man stepped away from the railing, dropping his cigarette to the ground and stepping on it to put out the flame. "Why aren't you able to get rid of me?"

Rowan shuddered as the man walked by him, leaving a feeling of icy withdrawal in the air around them.
