"So what you mean is you're deliberately trying to stop Hilary from attending BlueWhale Kindergarten. Pure malice." Claire gave him a faint smile. "Fine. It was Adam and Dean who asked me to send Hilary there in the first place. Now that you've gone back on your word, I'll just tell them tomorrow and see what they have to say."
She lifted a finger toward Gilbert. "Good night, Mr. Watson." With her chin slightly raised, she swept past him, proud and defiant.
"Wait, you—" For the first time, Gilbert's confidence faltered.
If Adam found out he had broken his promise and kept Hilary from going to kindergarten, the boy would hate him and worse, he would surely run straight to Great-Grandmother to complain.
That wouldn't end well…
Watching Claire's self-assured figure retreating, Gilbert felt his usual sense of control slip away. For once, he could no longer use Adam and Hilary to threaten this stubborn woman.
And the more powerless he felt, the more triumphant she became.
