"Go! Run!" Alpha Lucas yelled at the man holding the baby. But Edward's expression was one of shock, he didn't understand why he should leave. His duty now and forever is to protect the Alpha. They are all in this together.
The kingdom had turned upside down. The intruders had made sure to come very early in the morning around 2am. Because it was an insider, the alarm bell rang late.
Before they knew it, half of the kingdom's warriors were dead. Not to forget that they were some who had betrayed them and sided with the intruders.
"Leave!" Alpha Lucas growled at his beta who was now rocking the crying baby. His wife, the queen, lay lazily on the floor of the tunnel. She has no more strength from the labor she had just gone through.
Out of all days, the baby prince had to come out today when their kingdom was under attack. A well-planned attack that has taken almost every werewolf warrior in the kingdom.
When the war is planned by someone inside the family, it's more intense than when it is planned by an outsider. The family knows where it itches, they know the deepest secrets and they use them against us in times like this, war.
The sounds of wolves in the tunnel were getting louder, and heavy steps could be heard coming in their direction. Everywhere was in chaos.
Alpha Lucas knew that they were closer than they sound, even Edward knew but he can't imagine leaving his friend behind.
They have been friends for more than sixteen years, and he can't watch his one and only friend die like that. He would die with him if need be.
"I can't leave you" Edward declined as he waited for the werewolves to come at him. He drew out his sword with his left hand while his right hand held the crying baby, he'll make sure to kill them all. He would protect his king and his family.
"You have to leave me this time around. Now go!" Alpha Lucas yelled at him. Fear gripped him when he heard the growling sound of the werewolves becoming louder. He wasn't scared for himself but for his little pup. He would protect him with his life.
He would have continued the race and escaped but he couldn't do that. Not when his beloved wife, queen Erica just gave birth to a baby boy.
What great joy it brought to him. But his joy was short-lived as he had to send his only son and heir to the throne away. Away from this war
"I will forever stand by you! Even If you choose to stay and fight, I also will stay and fight until my last breath!" Edward declared stubbornly. His life mission is to protect the king and his family, that is what he would do till his last breath.
"Standing by the side of the prince is equivalent to staying by my side. From now on the prince is the one you protect" Alpha Lucas ordered causing Edwards's eyes to widen in shock
"But my Lord-"
"Leave now"
"Let him wear this" Queen Erika managed to say as she removed the necklace from her neck and gave it to Edward.
"Take him to a safe place far away from here" she instructed weakly.
They had been running down the tunnel for the sake of the baby down the tunnel when she felt labor pain. She cried but there was no midwife to help her. She delivered the baby by herself with the help of her husband and his beta.
Now she is so weak, she can't run anymore. Alpha Lucas would not leave his wife behind and decided to stay with her.
"But my queen-"
"I command you to leave!" her voice was cold and authoritative that one would not know she was weak. This was the first time the queen had ever spoken to him that way, Edward froze.
He stared at the both of them, their eyes were cold and filled with so much pain that broke his heart.
He can't imagine leaving them behind, they were his only family. He can't leave knowing that they needed his help.
The Luna can't even get up let alone fight and the Alpha king cannot fight the werewolves all by himself.
"My Lord, I can help," he cried. He didn't want to leave them
"Now!" Both husband and wife screamed at him.
Their son's life was more important to them than their own at the moment. A prophecy had come that he had a great future and would bring joy and peace to the kingdom once again.
He has to be alive for all those to be fulfilled. His life was more important
Beta Edward turned on his heels and ran as fast as his legs could carry him. His tears dropped as he kept running, not even looking back with the crying baby in his arms.
He was already out of the tunnel into the light again when he froze. What is he doing leaving the queen and the king to die there?
He heard screams and growls then silence.
Were they dead? No, no, no...
He turned around to run back into the tunnel to help his Alpha. As he was about to enter, he saw his friend and alpha, blood all over his body. He was moving closer to the exit of the tunnel, Edward sighed in relief when he saw that he was still alive. He wasn't sure of the queen though since he heard screams.
Just then, the Alpha used his sword to cut the ropes holding the rock on top of the tunnel. Immediately he did that, the rock fell, sealing the tunnel's outlet.
"Nooooo'' Edward screamed when he saw what the king had just done.
"No" he cried "No..." He fell to his knees and cried
Now there was no way to help even if he wanted to. He could understand why the king did it, the werewolves were coming for the baby, the heir to the throne.
He swallowed the lump in his throat and wiped his face with his hand. If the king and the queen could sacrifice their lives for this child, he would do everything to make sure that their son survived.
As if summoning courage, he tied the child with a cloth in front of him as he made his way out of the entire kingdom, running.
After a long run, he entered a ship. If he wants to get out of the kingdom completely, he has to go to a place where no one knows him or anything about the little one in his arms, to keep him safe.
Edward traveled seven different seas to come to a land far away from home, far away from danger. The baby boy that had survived the war that took the lives of the king and queen.
He vows to take care of the prince and gives him the life that he deserves. He placed the necklace the queen gave to him around his neck, even though it was too big, he adjusted it just to fit his small neck.
"I'll protect you, son. You will not have a reason to feel your parent's absence"
"Scott Lucas Cross"
