Chapter 5 - Dual Reaper Awakens

The Dungeon Guardian's gigantic axe shrieked across the air, imbued with wicked energy. A blow from that monstrosity would charbroil Yami—but he wasn't going to let it happen.

His newly-formed second scythe pulsed in his left hand. The Reaper's Will charged in him, making his reaction time as quick as possible.

Let's see how much Dual Reaper can do.

As the axe fell, Yami evaded but plunged in nonetheless.

SHING!

At the very last instant, he flung his whole self about, swinging his scythes in a cross-slash.

CLANG!

The impact created a shockwave, but instead of being knocked back, Yami redirected the force of the axe aside. The Guardian's massive axe hit stone and sunk in deeply.

"Too slow."

Yami vanished in a cloud of darkness--to reappear overhead once again, each scythe glinting.

"Reaper's Dance!"

He spun mid-air, a tornado of black slashes. His swords hit at the Guardian's armor, each hit cutting in slightly deeper than before. Black sparks and fumes billowed out of its body as cracks opened across its gigantic form.

The Guardian roared, swinging its gauntleted fist to swat him down.

Yami smirked. Not happening.

He kicked at the head of the Guardian, and it slammed back as its own shoulder took the impact of the charging fist. The force knocked back the towering monolith.

Yami landed safely, his scythes blurring.

"Damn, this is crazy," he grumbled. His muscle ached at the speed, but the energy rush was priceless.

The Guardian stabilized, its radiant scarlet eyes blazing hotter than ever before. Its shape convulsed, and then—

CRACK! The armor split open and inside its chest there lay a core of maelstrom darkness.

Yami's smirk widened. "Bingo."

The Guardian raised his axe for a second time but had no time to strike.

He rushed headlong, darkness billowing around him as he vanished and reappeared in mid-swing.

His right scythe came across in mid-Guardian—he jammed his left scythe far inside its core.

The Guardian stiffened.

A single second in stillness.

Then—

BOOM!

The entire monster exploded into black mist, the force shaking the dungeon walls.

Yami landed easily, one scythe across his shoulder. He watched as the rubble of the Guardian dissolved away, but for a lone glowing piece of a soul—the largest he had ever had the misfortune to witness.

As the fragment drifted towards him, the voice of the god in his head.

"Boss Soul Absorbed. Reaper's Will increased +10%."

Yami exhaled, for he could sense raw energy course through his system. His build felt stiffer but lighter—a piece of Death Gods real power had just settled in.

He clenched his fists.

"Not bad."

The dungeon rumbled, and the massive stone door behind where the Guardian had stood slowly creaked open, revealing a path deeper into the abyss.

Yami stretched his neck. "Okay. Next."

With both scythes in hand, he walked into darkness.

The Reaper's adventure had just begun.
