Chapter 10 - The Reaper Awakens

Yami's instincts flashed warning. The fangs of the Fenrir came close, exuding evil energy and eager to claw out his throat.

But something shifted inside of him.

A pulse.

A familiar voice in his ear.

"Reaper's Will… unlocked."

Suddenly—

BOOM!

A wave of black energy surged out of Yami's body. The entire dungeon shook and slammed back at the Fenrir, sending it crashing back upon a stone.

The pitch-black Nightmare Domain dissolved at once and once more, Yami could perceive things.

He exhaled, staring at his hands. A different energy ran in his veins, icier than ice, darker than death.

Then—

DING!

A system warning flashed.

[New Skill Acquired: Death's Grasp]

Effect: Temporarily nullifies target defense and healing while in direct contact.

Duration: 10 sec.

Warning: Only applies to creatures marked by Reaper's Will.

Yami grinned. "Oh, isn't that just convenient."

He turned towards the Fenrir, who had stood up. Only there was a difference.

The beast's eyes blazed and rattled.

It was terrified.

Yami cracked his knuckles. "Yeah, sure, sure, I'd be scared too."

The Fenrir snarled and attacked once again, but no longer would he retreat.

Instead—

He stepped out and reached out.

"Death's Grasp."

His hand touched the fur of Fenrir—and at once, dark veins branched out across the creature's form, its energy draining away.

The monster stumbled, losing quickly its imposing presence.

"No more healing," Yami said codly.

The Fenrir whimpered.

And then, before it could act--

SHING!

Yami's scythe sheathed in a quick, definitive stroke across its throat.

The Nightmare fenrir fell, its enormous shape unravelling in black mist.

DING!

"Boss defeated!"

"Soul Absorbed. Reaper's Will +5%."

"Level Up!"

Yami exhaled, tensing and stretching out his shoulders. "Man, that workout."

As the energy of Fenrir took hold in him, he could feel a surge of power awakening. A thing deep, but latent—but unstoppable.

The God of Death's will… was awakening.

He smiled. "Well, just have to keep on killing to unlock the rest."

With that, he came in front of the next dungeon entrance—

And stepped out.
