Chapter 4 - Reaper vs Guardian

The Dungeon Guardian's axe hit stone, creating radial fractures. Dust and debris shot outward, but Yami had vanished—he flashed like a specter before re-emerging at the back of the titanic knight.

He spun his scythe in a tight circle and struck at the opening in the side of the armor.

CLANG!

The blade struck harshly and ringing out at the back of the black metal.

Yami clicked his tongue. "Figures. Too easy if not."

The Guardian twisted its gigantic shape unnaturally swiftly, swinging its axe in a ruthless horizontal swing. Yami evaded in time as pressure winds swept across space just inches in front of his head. It would have slammed him across the dungeon wall if it had hit.

"Alright, big guy," Yami growled, holding his scythe tightly. "We'll have to see how much it takes to break you."

The Guardian remained steadfast. It raised its axe for another deadly strike.

But Yami was already moving.

With a flash of darkness, he ran towards it, cutting in before it could complete its swing. His free hand flashed upwards—dark chains shot out of his hand and encircled the limbs of the Guardian.

"Let's see if you like being slowed down."

The chains wrapped tightly around, securely holding it in place for a second.

A second is sufficient for Yami.

He jumped, clearing across the head of the thing, and struck at it as best as he could.

CRACK!

The Guardian slipped, a jagged gash across its helmet. Thick, gooey smoke oozed out of the wound.

Yami grinned. That worked.

The Guardian let out a metallic scream, and in a blood-red glow, it burst out of shackles.

Yami's eyes widened. "Oh, you're pissed now, huh?" The monster smashed down towards the ground and discharged black spikes in a blast, firing projectiles at Yami.

He barely evaded it, turning in mid-air as the spikes scratched at his coat. Landing in a crouched position, he slid back away from it, eyes fixed on the Guardian.

"This guy's serious," Yami whispered. "Time to test something new."

He exhaled, and let the cold energy of the Reaper's Will flow through him.

A second scythe formed in his second hand—one finer and slimmer, for rapid cuts and not for raw force. The instant it formed, a voice he recognized in his head.

"Dual Reaper unlocked."

Yami's smirk widened. "Now we're talking."

The Guardian lashed at him once again, axe glowing in evil energy. But this time, Yami wasn't dodging.

He charged at it head-on.

Two scythes. Half the time. Twice the harvest.

The real fight had just begun.
